1) Where can I find the F-2 Template?

2) How can I download the game skins so that I can augment them and use them as "Custom" skins?

That's not possible.

That's not possible.

Actually its possible but you've got to do step by step :

- extract the skins from the skin.gtp file with unGTP

- open the default dds file (make the changes you want) and save same with a new name into the appropriate file in the data\graphics\skins file of the game

 

The point is that if your game parteners haven't the same file in the same place, they won't see your skin.

 

But, any way, if you want to customise some skins the simplest way is to make it from the public templates and become a skinner !

Hi everyone,

I've been working hard on the Bf 109 F-2; W.Nr. 8165, 'Black chevron 4' flown by Uffz, Fritz Geissler of Stab I./JG52.

And.. I was wondering if anyone could help clarify the colours of that time.

Searching high and low, I have some what come to the conclusion that possibly the RLM's are as follows: ​ (?)

RLM: 27                HEX: F3BC00                (Gelb)
RLM: 64                HEX: DCE4E3               (Hellblau)
RLM: 67                HEX: 565D3F                (Dunkelolivgrün)
RLM: 70                HEX: 282C25                (Schwarzgrün)
RLM: 79                HEX: 6E462C                (Sandgelb)
RLM: 80                HEX: 282B1A                (Olivgrün)​

 

Here are a couple of screenshots,  (in game), of the two rather different RLM's of 67 & 80

( I was wondering if there was something in between).

To be honest, I wish I had better reference pics to work from, not that pleased with the result really.

What I am pleased with is:

All rivets have been colour coded and appear flusher.

Rivets adjusted around Canopy

Spinning rivets and seams added to spinner, (all line up within start/stop animations)

Exhaust pipes appear hotter and brighter

Large Metal Hinge has been enhanced

Alpha Channel Template has been made for quick fixes. (when using colour to Alpha)

 

So that's where it is atm..

The second one looks closer to the refference in my opinion. Btw I mainly use this chart as refference (although I've found some colours to be off and alway tweak them but only in very rare cases):

 

 

What I tink your skin lacks a little (sry if this is interferring with your taste/creativity) is a little "washed out" look. It basicly looks like fresh painted with bright colours and some detail weathering which makes for high contrast coulours.

 

I always love to compare my work to scale models because despite their differences both skining and model painting have quite a lot in common. A very common weathering method is the washing that gives the model a general layer of dirt and disrupts the contrast. The efect is similar to the "general dirt" layer included in the template for exampel.

I agree with what your saying, at the moment it does look like it's just been freshly painted . To clean for my taste as well, there are a few more layers to come.

Yey, I have net again!

 

Here is the Bf 109 F-2; W.Nr. 8165, 'Black chevron 4' flown by Uffz, Fritz Geissler of Stab I./JG52.

 

It's as accurate as I could get. The tones can be rather time consuming when matching against the seem lines, (it's fairly close).

Looking at the Alpha channel at all different times of the day, I decided on a tone that appears, more like metal when the light reflects off the surfaces at different angles. This Alpha channel has layers adjusted within that give the plane a less reflective appearance. The Yellow around the front of the plane was also sprayed.

It's personal preference, but I like the aircraft to appear as if it has seen some action. It can become a little dusty during the taxying and take offs so that shine is likely to become less noticeable after a few flights

Below is another version of Lieutenant Franz Josef Beerenbrock's  JG 51 F-2

It's all about the sharing  . Iceman did a fantastic version of this plane as well, (I fly iceman's version with admiration also), but there are different references out there, so this is just another. S! to iceman and his natural talent's thanks for sharing mate.

On another note, from what I have read there were less than 1500 F-2's built between October 1940 and August 1941. As simple as this sounds, it has assisted me with the colour selection of RLM's that relate to the black and white era of that time. The RLM's I chose for the top and bottom of this plane where: RLM 71 FS 34083 for the top and RLM 65 FS 25526 for the under side. There are other variations of these RLM's also, just depends on where you go for the HEX really, (rechecked monitor is calibrated).

Some don't like the advertising pop ups when it comes to downloading, and to be honest I would rather something else as a free alternative, so if anyone knows of something better, please feel free to advise.

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I've done skins before for other sims, but this is a first for BOS.

 

 

Bf 109 F-2, Werk no. 6741

Flown by: Lt. Karl Materleitner, Flugzeugführer.

 

This F-2 made an emergency landing in the town Kristianstad in southern Sweden on 9th of October 1943.

The landing was performed on a field next to an army base, scaring the pants of a lone conscript standing guard at the gate.

 

Lt. Karl Materleitner was based in Denmark, he lost radio contact and got lost in fog, followed by running out of fuel wich resulted in the emergency landing.

The aircraft was kept by the Swedish Airforce, and testflights were performed. After the engine was damaged, the aircraft was scraped in December 1943.

 

Lt. Karl Materleitner was returned to Denmark in November 1943 with another german pilot who had crashed on the same day with an F-4 in another part of Sweden.

 

This is only the first version. I'm sure updates will follow.

Hello everyone,

 

Speaking of updates, I ran another pass on most of the skins I've attempted so far. Looking at the Alpha Channel more lately, that and welcomed constructive advice where you can see some results.

​

There are many layers within the original .*psd files Jason has given us. Some folks adjust excising one's and some of us add even more .

The same can be done from the original Alpha Channel, meaning you can create your own custom one by adding additional layers. This task appears to add a new level of detail regarding the surface lustre separation of painted objects. There is a thread that 5tuka posted within these forums that explains this very well. He has even added some footage where you can see the differences of the surface lustres.

 

In the screen shots below, I have tried to make the Yellow pop, or stand out more on the 109 by using a custom layer for the alpha channel. The Metal Chipping was not only reduced, but it too had a custom layer added to the Alpha Channel. (I did this also with the IL-2's red stars and paint chipping).

Is it worth the effort on a Matt paint job?
