Cavemanhead Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 (edited) Maybe I'm expecting too much but assumed BOS would start where the original IL-2 left off... In particular, are there any options to tailor the red/blue test indicators to be bigger or smaller, or more dim as I approach the target, or selected text removed, etc... These were great options in the original IL-2 that if not implemented now I really hope they are implemented... Has nobody else asked about this? I would have expected more of an "outcry"... Sokol1 Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 No, icons/labels are not user configurable, can only turned OFF/ON. And was informed that are not planed changes in the system.

Cavemanhead Posted January 31, 2016 Author Posted January 31, 2016 Notice I've changed the original thread title to eliminate the word "padlock" as that was not my intent... Yes, I agree padlock was only a realism enhancement when Track IR was not around... But... I'm certainly not one of those that think the most "real" means no additional information given to the pilot... e.g. if the real world pilot had no "HUD" info on the enemy such as distance, etc. then neither should the sim pilot... I believe this concept to be flawed since it creates an artificial handicap that the real "seat of the pants" pilot did NOT have (thereby actually making it more unrealistic)... So... getting back to the subject... Wondering why the developers did not put in more options to control any "cheats" to the point of absolute "balance" and realism... How I wish for a day when the text could me made much smaller and more translucent, disappearing at a pre-determined distance of the player (say inside of 750m or something along those line)... This way you get the best balance of "realism" without destroying immersion... This is not so much true for air targets as it is for the ground targets... I must admit, I'm a little put off by the "giant" blue and red dots... It would be so nice to simply see a faint text note that could be turned off once you know there is a ground target "down there somewhere"... At least that would nail down the target area without being too "gamey"... Yet still improve the realism through a "cheat"... IRL, the pilot had a much better sense and view of ground targets since he was not hampered by the limitations of a 24" monitor with a TIR... Getting "reality" in a computer based flight sim is all about compromise... I've been doing it for 33 years... At any rate, I'd think adding this sort of functionality would be a trivial thing to do relative to the monstrous coding required to make the great graphics, FM, and "feel" that the sim does do quite well...
Sokol1 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) ... think the most "real" I don't like icons/labels/HUD in any game, and this preference don't have nothing with the (BS) "realism", just don't like that my games looks like a "XBox" one. * Back to topic: Wondering why the developers did not put in more options to control any "cheats" to the point of absolute "balance" and realism... Explained several times in DD's, Q&A's... "options" means less possible "new players" - today people want games to be controlled with less keys that a PS3 controller have - and not only "new players", see the amount of "CFS veterans" complains about the need to map (e.g.) "stabilizer adjust" and "elevator trim" (that can be both set in the same keys). So, two options is enough: ON or OFF. Make yours choice. * But previously DCS 1.5 I use DCS "labels MOD" (in true only . ' " *) over distant vehicles, as in that game don't see nothing outside the ~2/3 Km bubble. When the object became visible the "label" disappear. Well, thanks the advantage to have "options".
