=38=Tatarenko Posted November 23, 2013 Author Posted November 23, 2013 Div HQ of the 138 Red Banner Rifle Division which held Ludnikov's Island. This was not an island but was a small pocket of Soviet troops cut off from the rest of their army and with the Volga at their backs. There was no escape so they held in the face of the Germans. 2

Uufflakke Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Ian, I visited the site mentioned in the first post and browsed through your photo collection and have one question: Where are alle the citizens? Wolgograd seems to be so desolated. Or did you scare them away because you used the wrong deodorant?
YoYo Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 (edited) And better than Dubai? (Al Arab x 2 ;- ))) ) Edited November 23, 2013 by YoYo
SCG_Neun Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Thanks for the photos.....I have also been in the area, but did not get the time to tour things. Maybe someday I can return.
=38=Tatarenko Posted November 23, 2013 Author Posted November 23, 2013 Ian, I visited the site mentioned in the first post and browsed through your photo collection and have one question: Where are alle the citizens? Wolgograd seems to be so desolated. Or did you scare them away because you used the wrong deodorant? I found the city to be very empty, esp in the old Soviet areas that I was drawn to. So my photos show that. The station area was busy. But overall the place was really unnaturally empty, esp around Barrikady, Red October, Central Park and the waterfront. The main shopping areas were busier and McDonalds and the cinemas were packed.

=38=Tatarenko Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 Except that during the war the building in the foreground didn't exist (built after 1973) and there was a three story wooden building. Can't beat on-site research

MoUa Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 My Grandpa's brother died there on the german side in 42 not sure exactly what his role was doing the war
Freycinet Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Thanks so much for the photos Ian. Great shots and very informative. Only slight misgiving, photographically, is that I think your sepia colour tone is a bit excessive. I myself visited the Ukraine a few years back. Maybe you will find my photo galleries interesting... http://www.dalsgaard.eu/Pics/2008-08.Lviv/2008-08.Lviv.html http://www.dalsgaard.eu/2008-08.Kiev/2008-08.Kiev01.html
=38=Tatarenko Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 Hi Frey, Yes I think I remember these from SimHQ a few years back? Anyway, nice shots.
