Can't stand this near-future-caseless-ammo-scifi-vehicle-pos. Yes, I know I can mod it (and how to do it) but apart from looks it is still not as good as A2 in my opinion. Arma 3 should have been what Arma 2 with ACE mod was but with updated graphics and a new engine. And my pet peeve with Arma 3 - they spent time making underwater stuff but forgot to make maps with rivers etc so that spec ops divers and mini-subs would make any sense. Arma 3 is just a monument of wasted potential (and yeah, my name is in the credits)!

What's this Apex all about anyway? I couldn't figure it out from the video.

Arma died for me when DayZ, Wasteland, King of the Hill and Chernarus/Altis Life RPG servers sucked all the life out of the good multiplayer servers. Used to love some Insurgency, MSO, Domination. Before it was team based tactics and co-operation, now it's all Let's turn Arma into another brain dead FPS for morons and hackers with a side of desynch, global chat spam and perpetual bugs because the mission makers have no idea about muh finite system resources.

I did get some fun out of murdering idiot "snipers" in Day Z for a while though. Fools would spawn in, run to get basic gear, run to NW airfield, run to favourite sniper spot with scoped rifle and there I'd be, waiting under a pine tree nearby. Prone up to them, double tap to the back of the head with a Makarov and thanks for fetching me all this gear bro.

Did anything ever end up happening with the ALiVE mod?

I like the ideas of simulation behind the ArmA games, but for me the straw that eventually broke the camel's back was the lack of overall optimization. A close second though, which seems to be consequently endemic to simulation games, was - sterility. This last symptom of course becomes more pronounced as games like GTA 5, BF, and others flesh out better terrain, particle effects especially, character animations, environmental DM, sounds, etc. Add to that the sheer amount of time needed to tweak and mod the game, not to mention the time needed to familiarize yourself with the game's basic functions and its ME. It's all too much anymore. ArmA 3 does have some of the best looking tracers though.

Problem with Arma is the direction it has taken. I remember the old Flashpoint games (not the Codemasters rubbish) where buses went by on a time table. The old games in the series were much less sterile than Arma 3. It has snakes and sharks but no furniture and civilian life. Makes sense... If Bohemia had developed that concept instead of trying to make a near-future Call of Battlefield game it would have been happy days. The relative realism from Flashpoint, Arma and Arma 2 went out the window with body armor and made up nonsense. Of course the fanboys (that never played either Flashpoint or Arma/Arma 2 won't agree since they come from the world of Call of Battlefield. But a military "simulator" isn't much of a simulator when you can shoot somebody in the eye at point blank range with a 9mm pistol without them even falling to the ground. And small stone walls still stops 50t tanks in their tracks and all windows are made of kevlar. That is what happend to Arma!

I agree with all of you, I preferred ARMA 2 as well but the mods can fix this rubbish hopefully. I will say that I bought ARMA 3 on high expectations but didn't enjoy the modern war stuff.

Yep, Arma 2 is still my favourite... I don't like all this futuristic modern stuff one bit!

Ah, I like the look of the CUP mod... I may have a look at that   :)

Does the mod have regular updates?

Edited by Trooper117

From what I've seen it seems to have some fairly regular updates.

I originally installed the version from Armaholic, but now it's up on the Steam workshop.

I also prefer the Arma 2 Cold War universe as opposed to this modern weaponry make over. So CUP is the perfect solution here.

Plus all the old Arma 2 maps seem to run so much better on the new engine.

Thanx for sharing HippyDruid! Guess I have to install A3 again and give it a go!

Posted

if you like "cold war" universe check  TacBF mod for Arma 3 with CUP and RHS inside

Posted

The problem now is trying to find missions to use with CUP!

I'm finding only missions that incorporate CUP as well as several others, and I don't want shed loads of mods installed just to play seperate types of missions... it's a mess :(

Posted

Any of you blokes interested in the Iron Front port/mod for Arma 3? I have Iron Front and I've been thinking about re-installing A3 to give it a go.

Posted

Ok, problems with CUP... I have subscribed to all the CUP mods, got the latest CBA3... I have no other mods installed, but when I run the game it shuts itself down with some NLOD error.

As soon as I ditch the mods the game runs fine... oh well, back to my real Arma 2!

I miss ARMA2. All my fav servers are gone now :(

Hmm Sorry to hear that man! It sounds like your missing some files. Which ones though?

Did you get it from the steam workshop or armaholic. IF the former try here:

https://forums.bistudio.com/topic/179326-community-upgrade-project-cup/

or the main site here:

http://cup-arma3.org/

As for missions, I generally generate my own on the fly using MCC. It will even let you modify existing single player missions while you're playing them.

MCC is one of the best mods I have ever used. It will let you have the functionality of the mission editor whilst your in game.

You can do anything you want in Arma 3 without having to know any kind of scripting at all. Brilliant!

Get it here!

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=338988835

Lastly the Dynamic Universal War System might be of interest (DUWS):

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=167274881&searchtext=

These are the only mods I have installed. All from the steam workshop, and they work together very well.

I hope you get it working, It would be a shame to miss out on using all the good old Arma 2 toys in the new engine.

Good luck!

:salute:

Thanks Hippy for your tip ... I'm on it. And yes Jimmy I miss the "normal" combat coop maps and the insurgensy maps. I'm hoping they make a comback eventually.

There's a CTI mission called "Liberation" that seems to be gathering some momentum Chief, very playable when the server admin hasn't set the AI to ridiculous Siimo Hayha mode difficulty.

Also, here are two missions I can highly recommend for those of you who want to try some Arma 3 single player (yes, it is possible to have fun in single player) are:

Whole Lotta Altis, Capture the Island with story elements, voice acting and some unreal mission building. DUWS is good but WLA is brilliant IMO

Ravage, If you liked DayZ when it was hard you'll like this. The tension and atmosphere are palpable in the early game but it runs out of steam when you get good gear since it turns into loot hoarding simulator with no real end-game purpose but, if you play Dead is Dead you won't make it to the late game very often.

Did you try using Play WithSix? It has a bad reputation for some odd reason, probably because of the ADD crowd of bandwagon riders infesting Arma, but I've found it works very well and makes managing presets of Arma mods for various missions/servers much more manageable.

I really like the ARMA series.

Used to play the "Hell in the Pacific" mod in the past for ARMA 2, then came the "Iron Front Liberation" DLC.

With the community being so large, its great to see the porting of mods and DLC's into the latest updates from Bohemia Interactive also.

The diversity of game play is broad, and the improvements are consistent with the integration of other related projects Bohemia have worked on.

"ARMA Apex" Thumbs up!

I'm glad Bohemia are looking at the lighting, it will be interesting to see what this is like within the dwellings at night.

The sound has improved along the way, also the games 3D editor. There's 20% off "ARMA Apex" , (keep in mind ARMA 3 is needed in order to experience this new development). Both can be found here: https://store.bistudio.com/products/arma3-apex-edition

There are so many different ways of installing mods, I decided on a method via the Bohemia forums. I ended up choosing the: @mods_name.pbo, method via > SteamApps/common/Arma3/Addons.

You can also rename the mods this way, and keep track of what you have.

Some mods work really well, (it's a bit of a hit and miss tho), and I never really took any notice of the mod ratings, as I've personally found much better work, (via the community members), with a lower star rating.

All ARMA Mods and of all kinds can be found at armaholic, NOT armaholics!, even though they look simular, stay away from "armaholics" (with the "s" on the end).

Other Related Tools as already mentioned:

Ahhh, Arma3. It's such an awesome military sandbox. The mods alone make this game worthwhile.

If you own Arma3 and haven't already installed the MCC mod. Do it right now!

Nice video too, thanks for sharing Chief!  :salute:

I love running the MCC4 and making scenarios when you are just a squad on foot

and you are hunted by 4-5 mechanized units and you beat a hasty retreat under

heavy fire and when you get into real trouble you call in Airstrikes and artillery to

save your butt.

MCC4 you can do everything the military can do today.

Zeus mod runs well too.

If anything is as realistic as ARMA III if there is I haven't seen it.

Posted

Oh and if you get ARMA III get the DLC ARMA III  Helicopters and Marksman downloads.

They are well worth the cost.

Apex sneak preview:

I took some screenshots, (within the editor), of Tanoa to share with you all. The game is looking really good, especially the reflections on the water.

Arma 3 s Apex Expansion is expected for release on July 11th. :)

I'm very tempted to buy it... is the preview version containing some campaign content?

Posted

I'm actually enjoying the new map a lot.... I have been taking my little bird up and scouting around the island, dropping down at points of interest and having a recce etc...

Also, there are missions now appearing for Tanoa, so they are fun.

Most of all, I enjoy using the Eden editor in 3D, making my own quick missions around various parts of the island, then having firefights in the jungle etc, by the way, the sounds in the jungle are just fantastic, very atmospheric!

This is what this game is lacking co-op wise and Server wise.Powerful user friendly tool.

Like I said before you can use the MCC sandbox 4 and create your own co-op missions and generate them with this incredible tool.

It is so easy it is insane. Now THIS IS A FMB/ME THE BEST OF ITS CLASS.

Play with your friends in co-op mode.

This is why ARMA 3 has 200 000 servers online sometimes on weekends.

I just bought APEX on special 30% and I want to know if anyone has trouble running MCC4 with it?

What do you think of the ARMA 3 Bundle 2

with real jet and tanks with more realistic functions and  controls early access 25% off

I buy everything on special.

I had so many co-op missions before I did not even need APEX before it went on sale.
