Heliopause Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 (edited) Read this book many years ago. Can't remember the title. Was wondering if the title is known by somebody. Story goes a bit like this: RAF DH Vampire pilot in the early fifties stationed in west germany. Flies to britain (over Holland’s Biesbosch and the North sea) but ends up in very bad weather and in the meantime gets low on fuel. Than a DH Mosquito shows up guiding him to a former WWII airfield in Britain. Vampire pilot lands succesfully and the pilot talks to an old gent still (the only one) present there. Picture on a wall in the old bar shows a pilot standing in front of a DH Mosquito. According to the old man the pilot on the photo was killed during the war. He was stationed on this airfield. Rjel Posted January 17, 2016 Posted January 17, 2016 Damn, beat me to it. I just listened to that on Friday I always thought this book would make a great movie.
Feathered_IV Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I have a feeling there might be a short dramatisation out there already. Another one that would make a great spooky aviation film or stage play would be Bomb Run by Spencer Dunmore. A great book if you can get a copy
Shepherd Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 This book is the reason for my username! Love the story. There is also an audio book version available...
