Erik Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Hi there, I have some questions to the developers about de Developer Diary. I have read it, and I am happy with the most of the rules. But not all, so here some questions: -I don't exactely now what directX graphics ROF use, but I am a little disappointed that this new game won't use Dx 10 or 11, because that give a lot better graphics, think about lightning systems etc. So maybe can you explain why you decide to do it on this way. -ROF is a in my opinion a very good game with nice graphics, use friendly, realistic, and good frames. Top game! I have also bought IL-2 Cliffs of Dover. I sorry about this, but I think I have wasted my money. Because it won't work good. Bad frames, controls don't work, don't know how to get good controls, no explain in a mission what to do and how to do? So, what I hope, is that it will a game with the engine of ROF, so we have good frames and controls, that are easy to change in the menu! Will the damage graphics the same as in ROF, with all single part that can broke of your plane? Erik
SYN_Haashashin Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Hello Erik, The direct x10/11 question has been asked a lot. The use of directx9 make possible that more players are allowed to use it, me thinks, not an IT guru here. Also there are word that work on dx11 can be done in this engine, just not at release. Looking at the Tank experiment video, I dont know if it is on directx9 but mostly sure is on DN engine, and to tell you the truth, it looks awsome to me. As you say the menu and all that, good frames (stable) and controls being able to be changed while in fly, etc are very good in RoF so I have no doubt that It will be great on BoS.
startrekmike Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 The "debate" about DirectX 9 Vs. DirectX 10/11 on this board is producing plenty of heat but almost no actual light, while I admit that DX11 has plenty of cool features that I would love to see implemented in a flight sim, I however don't think that DX9 is as bad as some are trying to make it out to be, it almost seems like some are just using it as a low hanging fruit to lash out at. One needs only look at the rather impressive visuals (and performance) of DCS A-10C to see that DX9 is not some ancient and useless technology, the level of detail that is achieved in that sim is astounding and it looks amazing (sharp textures, nice lighting, real time dynamic shadows and all the other industry buzz words!), anyway, I think you see where I am going with this. DX9 is not as bad as some would like everyone to think, I have no doubt that plans are in the works to bring BoS to DX10 or even 11 at some point but it is a smart business move to not try to reinvent the wheel at this stage. 1
Foobar Posted December 16, 2012 Posted December 16, 2012 Looking at the Tank experiment video, I dont know if it is on directx9 but mostly sure is on DN engine, and to tell you the truth, it looks awsome to me. As Albert stated before they wont use DX higher than 9 atm: 5) Will the new graphics engine used Dx10/11? No. We believe that the DX9 features more than enough. Just a good result requires more skill from programmers and artists. I don't think that they put resources into a quick test how things would look like by using DX10/11 when resources are small. This small tank video is a impressive evidence that DX9 is really more than enough for a military sim - if really just only DX9 - wich I can't judge just by watching the viedo.
Bearcat Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Consider that CoD,WoP,WT, and DCS are all DX9 sims although I think CoD runs DX10 as well..RoF runs 9-11 at least for the sound. Here is more on Direct X: MS Direct X I am not worried about it at all.
