Playing 1946 online

So, since I gather many of you still play the old Betsy in different ways, versions and servers, I want to ask how many are still playing it online? :)

This thread is meant to work as a hub so that whomever is online can play together in the old ways.

A format to keep it simple:

Nickname:

Server(s):

Version(s):

On my end:

Nickname: 55IAP_Smuglyanka

Server: 212.192.155.118 (Vinni Puh Server - il2.kubannet.ru; no externals/no padlock/cockpit always on, only friendly icons but you can turn those off on your end; the closest to full real you can find with a population)

Version: 4.13m

:)

Hey Lucas, just to answer your post for now:

I am not flying IL2-1946 in any open multiplayer servers.

However 1946 is currently my most played sim.

I am flying SeoW every Sunday. Currently the 1943 Italy campaign, and my whole squadron and me are flying 190 A4 and A5s, with the odd 109G6 pair doing high cover.

In addition we have squad training once a week. Mostly using the aircraft we use in the campaign, doing coop-based missions or dogfights against each other. We also have casual squad battles against the VARP squadron a few times per month, doing pretty much any encounter there was, just what suits us, everything from Ki-10 against Gloster Gladiator till Mig against Sabre.

We are using the HSFX history mod 7.0.3, the expert mode, and for the SeoWs there is a huge mod for every campaign..consisting of the map, camouflages, respective ground units etc.

I am using all my "free flight time" (apart from squad trainings, SoW every Thursday, FNBF every Friday, and SeoW every Sunday) in DCS currently, so you won't see me in any open 1946 server unfortunately. But i'd figured i'd answer anyway, in case you are interested what other people do :)

Same as Manu.  IL2 1946 squad coops Tuesday nights,  our own CLoD server Thursdays,  IL2 1946 long mission/coops Sunday night.

@Manu; the VARP - our favourite enemies.   Every couple of years they talk us into a SEOW against them and then proceed to kick our arses all over the sky!!! :salute:

Edit; if the devs put a proper coop mode into this game a lot more squad guys would take an interest.

+1, and

+100 to the last sentence. A few people in my squad own BoS, including our chief, but he is waiting for a proper official dynamic campaign including all the stuff you are used to in 1946. I am unfortunately the only one from our squad participating in the FNBF campaign in BoS, Chief wants to wait until things are more fleshed out, until he "forces" the rest of our squadron to buy BoS, and make it an "official" Sim in our lineup. Being able to create proper coop missions for our Trainings is also an important factor. Until then 1946 will stay the prime focus.

I still fly it and build missions for it, even if my time is divided between 3 sims at the moment.

To be honest I'm interested in all the ways it still lives on so all comments are appreciated, Manu. :)

The SeoW stuff sounds really great, I had my squad days briefly in 2009 but unfortunately the one I signed up for really wasn't for me - very airquake-oriented, command problems (both structurally and in terms of ego), they didn't fly anything but Fw-190s which is completely fine but my interest is more geared towards Allied aircraft, unit and operations so the passion wasn't really there. I'm going to join the FNBF fray once I can though, that may be the beginning of something

For those who want to mess around a little, here's a great website that shows all servers with number of players, version, difficulty, who is playing, what map is on and the duration of each mission, plus links to any statistics and forums: http://il2.com.ru/en/links.phpIt's a great way to find out where the fun is, and it shows a lot of servers which aren't on Hyperlobby (most of the Russian and Ukrainian ones for example).

It was stated that Il-2 will get a coop mode à la Rise of Flight once they clear up the BoM work so the squadron crowd will be served soon enough.

Fenice, I'm trying to beat laziness and create a second install with 4.12m so I can visit the 'old' servers. Any time you want to fly together/against I'm up for it

Thx Lucas,

actually the greatest problem in updating most il2 servers is the fact that FBDJ, the server controller, isn't updated to 4.13.

Also many servers are mod friendly and based on larger planesets than stock version. HSFX is (and probably will not) be updated to 4.13 and SAS still has to release its AI plane pack.

These are the greatest difficulties in updating servers to 4.13. The benefits of the new version do not couterbalance the impact on overall playability of the older one with the features added from those mods.

I would also like to fly it more. Haven't talk '46 online yet, which feels like a crime.

Do you know of any good servers that are up?

This is the link to the forum of the developer of the matchmaking lobby for il2 1946 called "Hyperlobby" which is / was generally used by il2 community link.

You can download the Hyperlobby client from there.

SEOW on HSFX organized by the VARP guys was by far the best experience of an online campaign me and my squadmates had so far. (Stalingrad, Malta and Kursk).

You can download anything you need from here.

As EL_Marta said, Hyperlobby is the way to go, its a server browser for IL2 1946 and many other games.

As for servers, I only tried Battle-fields1 so far, but on CET evenings there is quite a bit of pilots online. One note, about half the servers still run on version 4.12, so you may want to down- or update.
