Copied game from another PC and it will not start

Brief description: I copied the entire game onto a memory stick and put it on my new PC. It will not start.

 

Detailed description: I put the copied folder "IL2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad" into "C:/Program Files". I installed DirectX and Vcredist from the 3rd Party folder as instructed in the FAQ. When I try to start the game with IL2.exe I get the message "The exception unknown software exception (OXc0000417) occurred in the application at location Ox5494fc96". Using the launcher.exe in the same folder produces a dialog box which includes the text "Access to the path C: Program files/IL2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad/updates/launcher.update is denied". I cannot get it to highlight the entire text to copy it here and I cannot seem to get a screen shot. 

 

PC configuration: old PC runs Vista Home Premium (64 bit) SP2. Intel core i7. 2.67 GHz, 4.00 GB RAM. New PC is running Windows 7 (64 bit) Home Premium SP1   Intel core i7-4790K 4.00 GHz, 8.00 GB RAM. 

 

Pilot configuration: old codger with limited understanding of all this. Advice gratefully received.

Try moving it out of C: program files to another (created) folder on C,

 

program files can give many issues with permissions

Umm... I think you're missing a bunch of registery entries if you just copied installed version of game to memory stick and then to a new computer. You should do a proper install of the game.

Pretty sure it is possible to copy past, dont think there are any reg entries to worry about, maybe things have changed with updates?

Did as you suggested and put the copied game into its own folder. A simple solution but it all works fine and there were no more complex issues with registry thank goodness. Update took a while although I subsequently spent a happy evening flying from Kalach to Stalingrad. What a great game. I specifically bought a new PC to run my flight sims and it is certainly well worth the money. Just need to sort out various issues with my X52 joystick and throttle which may be to do with them being a bit long in the tooth so a new set may be my next purchase.
