With the official release just announced I wonder if there is any news about its use in BoS or BoM or for that matter CloD or RoF?

I'd like to read reviews for the first buyers of this newly released version  whether it would be worthwhile to sit & wait for a new & improved version or buy it now & expect sims to "catch up" with the technology?

Finally at $499.00 suggested retail price ,is there anywhere where on might get a deal on one of them?Only kidding....sort of....

Occulus Rift only supports DX11 or later.

For a deal, I would probably wait till like Ebay since I expect half the buyers will put them up for sale after getting motion sickness :P

The headset cost us$600, so i don't think that sim developers will run to rewrite the engine to support DX11, for a device that only a few will buy in the short term.

Maybe when the price drops (if someday this happens) then maybe the devs will look into a engine conversion.

Only the ones who have a rig, that can't run Oculus properly (with a decent fps rate). But there will be plenty for sure. Their "recommended rig" with an I5 and the GTX 970 might well run this comic graphic jump'n run, but you can completely forget to play something like DCS.

Price is set to 599 $

It is with a controller for x box and a couple of games. The Facebook group now sits with their thumb in the mouth mourning they sold their OC Devkit 2 .

Since it does not support COD and BOS, and my gtx 680 probably too small for this , I am out until I see a real use for it

The Rift and other virtual headsets are the future... I'm  really surprised more people aren't super excited about this for flightsims (and driving sims, and fps games) - its the one thing that I'm really looking forward to....

3D virtual headsets are the perfect match for flightsims and nothing would show each other's product off better... its a shame 1C/777 couldn't get IL2 bundled with the headset.

If only I could afford it!

I will find a way to have one in the next 12 months.

Happy New Year from super excited Simon!

I am also super exited about it. But i definitely won't buy it the next year or so, because i don't wanna spend that much money for it. I'll wait 2 or 3 years, till the graphics cards are more advanced, drivers are optimized for VR, and the device and PC to run it are cheaper. Not willing to defray their R&D costs. That should be done by people with much money. But i am already very much looking forward to the point where i can have the VR sensation for a reasonable price.

More like 710 Euros or $1000 Australian depending on where you are....and no specs released

What a lot of people also don't realize is not only does it need a decent GPU, minimum GTX970 (and we all know what minimum requirements mean..) it also doubles the draw call on CPU and needs high single core performance

I dont really understand the talk of facebook investment helping to lower the price and make it more accessible on launch, 6 month (June) delivery now being talked about

To be fair I've been around long enough to remember that similar things were said about the first versions of Track IR....

I am very excited about products like Oculus & with a bit of savings could just about afford to purchase one ( & explain to my doubtful Wife,) but will wait until they are "operational with flight sims I am loyal to in SP play.... ;)

The specs have been known about for some months, the resolution and fov has been told to us many times by the Oculus reps at many of the public showings, it is  2160 x 1200 @ 90hz split over 2 OLED screens, that's 1080 x 1200 per eye, we know it has built in earphones (that detach) and a built in mic, we know it has improved optics and a physical IPD adjustment, it can support multiple tracking cameras and has 360 degree tracking with a wider field and several other features that make little difference if known or not.

A minimum spec of a GTX970 soon enough will be required for most games with or without VR, the world moves on I'm afraid, sooner or later we might even see software that utilizes multi core processors properly.

The Facebook deal was never going to make the VR headset cheaper.  It did allow Oculus the financial ability to move up from using smartphone displays and parts, too custom VR displays, custom lenses, and all the other custom parts.   The refrain from many people was that Facebook would downsize the headset from gaming to social media, and they jumped on the Vive bandwagon when it was announced.  .  If Oculus and Vive kept the price down to the four hundred dollar level, PC VR would die again, for many years, as smartphone parts just aren't good enough for decent VR.  Its unfortunate that many people were priced out to the market, for the time being, but not sure how it could have been avoided.

I hoped there would be more specs released before I preordered the Rift, but I can just cancel the order if the Vive specs appear to be better.

I just wish I could play this game with it, that would have solidified my decision to buy a Oculus now. But as it stand I'm waiting on the vive and then will compare.

Excited???? I think I have been too long in communities like this, I come to realize it is no hardware that it is worth running after. What exactly can we use this for? DX 11 compitable games?

I aint going to fly WT, it is not compatible with any sim worth flying. I need to rebuild my RIG to make it work, and for what? No one have yet explained to why this thing even get mention here. Can it be used without develop migrene ?

But for what its worth I wish luck to all buying it, I hope they see use in it

It is fully compatible with DCS and that is a very good flight simulator even if it currently lacks a rounded theatre, the experience is truly outstanding in VR and that is just with the current developer kit, I also play elite dangerous using my Oculus developer kit and that is also an outstanding experience, it is even working with FSX/P3D and FSX is a DX9 title (in fact it wont work with DX11 turned on in FSX), Assetto corsa is a great driving simulator and it supports VR and is a fantastic experience coupled with a force feedback steering wheel, there are many other titles providing brilliant VR experiences.

I can play for hours solid in my DK2 and do not develop migraines or motion sickness.

Ok this is good, but just not good enough. Got about all the modules, but never really bothered to fly seriously in it. In this case DCS is not ready either and ergo it can wait

Just pre-ordered the Oculus Rift. Hope I like it.

According to OR compatibility test my 3570k is not enough for CV-1 and MB does not have enough USB 3 ports...

There are going to be a lot of upgrades needed by many, and I guess this is just for minimum needed performance

perhaps Skylake E and Cannonlake  will be around when CV-1+ is mainstream, also it seems that DX12 is very much needed to get some of the draw off CPU

I also ran it, and with the new Gtx970 i just got, i could use it according to the compatibility test without upgrading anything.

However the requirements on their page are only for oculus-optimized games, like Eve Valkyrie or the Jump'n'Run. If you want to use a more demanding title like DCS or Assetto Corsa, the minimum requirements are more like: Gtx980Ti, I7-6700K. That's what my buddy has, and he can run DCS 1.5 on settings "low" and renderdistance pretty far with a stable 75fps (absolute minimum required).

Another of my buddies has 2 Titans, and he can run DCS perfectly(settings high, renderdistance max),very successful in multiplayer (more then before) with his Devkit 2.

New tech is expensive
