Lennetkann Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 Hi, I want to spend more time flying German (He 111) and Russian (Pe 2) bombers and thought it would make sense using a yoke and a throttle quadrant. Is anybody using a yoke and is it worth thinking about it? Best regards Lennetkann
SCG_Space_Ghost Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I wouldn't purchase a yoke unless you intend to use it outside of BOS/BOM as well.Generally, a decent flight stick/HOTAS will pay off a little more than a yoke in these types of simulators... Not to say you couldn't fly a 109 with a yoke... I just wouldn't want to.
Lennetkann Posted January 5, 2016 Author Posted January 5, 2016 Thanks for the quick reply. You are right, i wouldn't fly a fighter with a yoke either. But i have the possibility to buy a yoke together with a throttle quadrant quite cheap.

BMA_West Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) Used one beside my MSFF2 in ROF for bomber runs with 2 separate game instances for them, which was easier/faster than having to switch input-files. It however involved excanging the hardware before firing up the other game set and so is kind of a hassle. Edited January 5, 2016 by West
F/JG300_Gruber Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) I've been using exclusively the Saitek cessna yoke with dual throttle quadrant for about 6 month (because I was flying bombers exclusively). Honestly I'm not sure if it is worth the investment. The regular pro flight yoke have quality control problems and may not work out of the box and the cessna yoke I have can't benefit from the "rubber band mod" (check youtube) and so it's stiff springy center zone of the pitch axis makes precision flying quite tricky. Quite far away from the feel you have when flying a real cessna. The throttle quadrants are cheap, and the one provided with my yoke don't exploit the full course of the levers. Various calibration method didn't help, neither did taking it appart for cleaning the inside. This is most likely a hardware defect. The extra USB quadrant works fine though. Moreover all yoke and throttles are fitted with cheap potentiometers and not hall sensors. I found myself doing endless tuning with sensitivity and deadzones for the throttles and pitch levers to try to get a good sync between both engines. Though it definitely looks great on the desk, it feels quite cheap when you put your hands on it (especially the throttles levers) I recently bought an X55, for the same price I paid the yoke alone, and that was a much better investment. dual throttles feel great, and the stick is much more precise despite the lack of available extensions for it. Sometimes I miss the feeling of flying a heavy with a proper yoke, but since I bought the 55, each time I try to plug the yoke, I just put it back in the box after one hour or so. If a clever man ever comes up with a tweak to upgrade the spring mechanism inside the yoke, with proper hall sensors and quality bearings for the rod, the yoke may become a good piece of equipment. But it will still lack a decent throttle quadrant. Edited January 6, 2016 by F/JG300_Gruber
Lusekofte Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 I use yoke, I use a very expensive one and can fly fighters with it with no problem. But it does not make it easier to fly them. It give you a authentic realistic feel of flying. I have to use muzzle nd weight. to move this thing When I started for 15 yers ago getting serious I bought a cheap one with twist handle for rudders. I was satisfied with that. Then I upgraded to a Saitek x 52 with throttle. Loved it. But it felt too easy for me, fingertip maneuvering a ww2 fighter. Nah so I switched to Saitek cessna yoke. They are both better than CH yoke, it got aluminium tube, CH got plastic tube. and get sort of stuck some times. The thing is a yoke make you move more to get there. But I would not buy a Yoke if I was not sure, I would buy a Joystick. And take it from there. The ambitions would set you straight after a while, I am here to have it as authentic as possible, if you are here to gett easy kills and easier handling, pick a joystick. This is my sincere advice for you. Flying bombers with a joystick is ok, but authentic with a yoke. Flying fighters with a yoke is ok, but a lot more accurate and historical with a stick
