LittleJP Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Any way this is possible? I know Oculus got written off because of reasons, but Steam VR apparently has a different way of running? Not clear exactly, but such support would make this my 100% to go soon. I've used Oculus DK2 for other games and the immersion is night/day. 3d with 1:1 headtracking would make this sim amazing.

Lusekofte Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 (edited) I had this explained many times, I understand it every time someone explain it , but then I forget it. But some say the Oculus Rift probably will demand more of the system due to the way tracking and such work, while HTC Vive got a better way. But the resolution itself should demand a great deal. Oculus Rift and Vive got their fan base and it works pretty much the same way as BOS site and COD sites. A absolute declaration of war. Those preordered the OR will not admit anything is better and the same goes for Vive fan base. But then there are people that distance themselves from such childish behavior. And they are the ones you should listen to Edited March 2, 2016 by EG14_LuseKofte 1

Yes HTC Vive has opened preorders on Feb29, but your wrong on just about everything else. There is no cristal Cove Trackir system. Vive uses Lighthouse, and Oculus uses Constellation. The Vive and Oculus have exactly the same resolution and almost the same FOV, with the Vive slightly higher, and the Rift slightly wider. The Vive ships in April not March My take so far on the difference between the two systems. If you want full room movement now, get the Vive, as Touch won't be out till later in the year. The HTC Vive is a very good system, and people won't go far wrong by purchasing one. If your primarily a flight simmer the Rift might be a better option. The Rift appears to have better visuals with their custom optic lenses, and custom VR displays. The Rift should feel lighter and be more comfortable for a longer period. The Rift is two hundred dollars cheaper as VR controllers aren't required for flight sims.' You can add VR controllers later when more interesting full room experiences are available. Some suggest that the Vive seethru camera might be good for finding hota/switches etc, but that highly unlikely, as the camera is a very low res 2D image with no depth. You could find your switches quicker by muscle memory, and feel.

For a WW2 flgiht sim where you can bind almost every single function in the game on the HOTAS, you really don't need the seethrough camera. Of course, if you like to drink beer while you fly, that can come in handy if you don't want to knock your drink over, but I think the camera is only 2d so you'll have the depth perception problems anyway.

StarLightSong Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) VR is so huge, even running twin 50s in a ball turret gunner role would be heaven, suddenly multi player bomber crews will be entertaining- im lookin at you Ju88... Got my Vive ineffable no words amazing please bring VR to IL2 and yes, the cost is so high that it really has to be amazing, breath taking, mind blowing to justify and it is. and I thought getting a Warthog and Cross peddles was a big improvement.
