...did those tanks, or artillery kill my C.202 on the rw, from such far apart ???

The projectiles kept hitting the rw all and airfield all around me, and I though to myself - a tank has found it's way next to the airfield bummer!, but NO... As I restarted and rushed for the takeoff I found the Artillery units and the tanks to be very far apart ???

This was at a session in the DED NORMAL server yesterday...

What's the effective range of those artillery and tank units after all ???

im guessing 5-10km for the rockets. and if there is howitzers they should be 8-12km range

On a normal server where target range is shown it is very easy at extreme range to zero in with some (fairly accurate) suppressing HE fire with a tanks sophisticated gunsight (with the normal server 'rangefinding cheat')

for example T-34 gunsight is calibrated up to 5km for indirect HE rounds, with the 'red dot' and range given a gun solution is not so hard

This is not an issue on Expert server where extreme range would be very hard to estimate and targets would have to be visible by line of sight

Ok, thx a lot you both, Lucas and Dakpilot :-)

Yes, even flying is more plausible and easier sometimes at EXPERT servers, when we do not have automatic engine management which, sometimes, can be misleading...

I remember when tanks were first introduced sitting in my immobilised T34 with a blown off track, and no other targets nearby, lobbing HE rounds towards the German airfield where the planes could be seen taking off a few km in the distance.

Impossible to know if you were hitting anything or even getting close, but yes, in normal mode with the distance given you can take a potshot.

I thought this was pretty entertaining.
