~S~ Everyone,

This subject came up the other day, and has been a stickler for many who have delved into mission writing.

I have reviewed myself, how it is, that I resolved the matter and have now created these images to explain it.

I'm not sure if this has been shared in the current ME guide offerings, and, it is a quirky thing for the novice.

Anyway, I shall lay out a basic, how to get your flight underway (not circling the spawn point), for youse here.

When you set up an airplane to spawn, such as I have done here, go to Add Event and first select Type : OnMovedTo and Find Target : link it to the first Waypoint and then OK, and OK.

Next go back to Add Event, and now, "for some reason?" you can select from Type : OnPlaneSpawned (as well as various options not listed before) and then OK, and OK.

At this point, in this set up, the Plane will now spawn 2 seconds after Mission Begin, and then 2 seconds later, the first Waypoint will be the instruction (target) for that plane.

If you then click onto the first Waypoint, you can then hold down the Shift key, and Left Click onto the Map to create a second and third Waypoint, as given in this example here.

And also, you should know that the last Waypoint can be Target Linked to the First Waypoint, to achieve a "patrol loop", whereas the Plane will then fly a circuit as shown here.

So there it is, the end of, "My Plane Spawns but Circles the Spawn Point and doesn't go to the first Waypoint", for anyone, who reviews this post.

I hope this helps any future pilots who dare to punch through the envelope of confusion, and wish to become the next Mission Builder in the lists.

Happy New Year and Blue Skies,

Hi Jupp,

Very interesting discovery re. how to set OnPlaneSpawned. However, I don't think that the OnPlaneSpawned event is working as you expected. I think that it's the right-hand timer in your screenshot that is triggering the waypoint and setting the plane on it's proper course. I tried testing without the timer but with OnPlaneSpawned and the plane just circled the spawn point.

I've tested the OnSpawned report though, which is similar to what you were doing with OnPlaneSpawned event. Here is an attached mission with the report scenario and two other alternatives.

JimTM-TestAI-ActivateSpawn2.zip

In the following screenshot of the mission, the 10s timer kicks off the three scenarios.

On the left side, "Spawn FW190A3" spawns the plane. The plane has an OnSpawned report in the advanced properties that links a "command" (the spawner trigger) and a target (the waypoint WP1) to the plane object. To create the report, you click "Add Report", choose a report from the "Type" drop-down, choose the command using "Find Command", and then choose the target using "Find Target". Also, the spawner and the waypoint both have to be object linked to the plane.

The middle scenario is the same as the right side except that instead of the report detecting the spawn, the 2s timer waits for the spawn and then triggers the waypoint WP2.

The right-hand scenario is the same as the middle one except an activate trigger is used instead of a spawn trigger.

Please let me know if you see any problems.

Cheers!

What I wanted was to make a formation of planes fly to a WP under the auspices of the formation leader, just as is possible with unspawned aircraft (i.e. aircraft created and acivated without a spawn MCU).  These look like each plane flying a set of waypoints individually and not as  a formation.

The method of each plane flying individually is where I am going with PWCG.  It's complicated but it is guaranteed to work.  However, if somebody can find a way to spawn a true formation (NumberInFormation and TL designations are honored) it would be really nice.  If not, then the duplication method will have to do.

As always, thanks for the input.  I really do appreciate the effort and when I say "that's not what I'm looking for" I don't want to come off as an ingrate.

~S~ Jim,

True enough, I do not know exactly the "why, and how come" of many things still, even after having mucked about for nearly a year with this particular ME.

What I can say for certain, is that this method does work, and, in the many applications that I have used it for, it works.

I believe, that it is somehow both the Event and Timer together, that make it so. I also hope "my attitude", is not mistaken, ever.

This is just a practical, understandable, way to go about this task is all. There are probably different ways to achieve it no doubt.

If you could really definitely sort this all out, empirically, I would be no one more happier! I see no problems, only solutions. Good hunting! :salute:

~S~ Patrick,

I know the subject that started me on thinking to share this specific information here with everyone, was brought about by the formation flight question that you had had.

This is not that, persee. It's just generally outlining how someone knowing next to nothing of Mission Editing, day 1, might have a go at getting an AI aircraft to fly somewhere.

Or, as a reference here, for when, as we all have done, scour forums ensues, after we fail ourselves to understand, or implement, something that we think we know should work. :P

And just as you've said. I am not trying to challenge anyone to anything other than learning for themselves, to build missions for themselves, friends, and squadron mates, .etc

I'm not everyone's cup of tea in my own ways, but I do mean well, and I am willing to share the fundamental things that I enjoy having access to with everyone. This being one.

You guys are both tops in my book, couldn't not be, and, for the very same things that we obviously share in common interest towards this hobby.

Onwards and Upwards!

~S~ Jupp.

Thanks for the kudos my friend. Same goes for you. No mistaking your "attitude", for I see a dedicated mission builder who loves what he does.
