Finding the Runway

Ok...so maybe I'm just spoiled with all of the airfield maps/approach plates that DCS or Falcon 4.0 BMS has for airfield operations (more for BMS). I'm having an issue figuring out where the runway is to taxi to it. I tried the external view but it doesn't seem to zoom out far enough to be able to see the airfield. I can actually taxi and steer the plane but I mostly wind up in a field or on a taxiway on the other side of the airfield. How do you guys figure out what the layout of the airfield is?

I use the age old "Follow someone who looks like they know where they are going" navigation method.
