Anybody Know Typical Data Rates When Flying in Servers

Recommended Posts

Just got asked the question, by somebody concerned with Bandwith and how much data/time flying in server would eat up.

My Broadband is unlimited but as a lot of US deals especially are not I'm sure somebody out there must have some rules of thumb to assist

Be grateful if anybody can chip in

Mods - I couldn't really think where to place this question/thread so if its in the wrong place then please move

I'm not going to packet capture on my end or spend a lot of time doing the math but you're looking at mid-to-low Mb's per round at best...

Now, if you're flying 100X 1hr sessions per month you may run in to some trouble there...

Now if you can PM a server owner/operator, they can probably give you a better idea of outbound metrics from their host - how many total Mb are they serving out to all of the clients connecting?

You have given me some sort of idea and that's all I'm looking for is a real broad brush rule of thumb

I wish I had more information for you but with my sweet, delicious uncapped 100Mb I've never really considered anything like that.

do think that PMing a server owner/operator will be your best bet - they will have the best idea of the leasing terms for their connection/hardware and how much utilization they're seeing... I don't think my ISP even lists what I used in any given month.

Good luck.  :salute:
