Just wondering which separate throttle controller (with extra buttons!) MS SW2 FFB users use...thanks! :)

I have the CH Pro Throttle. Lots of buttons, nice smooth action. Also works as a helicopter collective if mounted vertically, since it moves in a linear fashion and not in an arc like most throttles.

There are many reports of early wear and 'spiking' from the (cheap) potentiometers but so far after a few years i have yet to experience this from any of the levers, however one of the six 'rocker switches' became a tiny bit unresponsive, sure would be an easy fix but not bad enough yet..

also comes with optional black lever ends  hate the GA multi colored ones

Cheapish and does what it says

Erm... I believe he was looking for lots of buttons (presumably to compensate for the lack of thereof on the FFB2). How many does this one have? I only see the 3 rocker switches.

The 3 rocker switches work as 6 buttons, the only real advantage/benefit of Saitek throttle quadrant is having 3 axis/levers for WWII A/C engine management

I use one with my MSFFB2  so I posted  a pair would work nicely for bombers and give you 12 new buttons

Thanks to you both for your replies!

Throttles (COTS) that work standalone, can used with any joystick/brand.

CH PRO Throttle  - 8 bits controller (256 points), pot's - good quality.

Gametrix ECS - 11 bits controller (2048 points) contact less sensor in throttle axis, pots (low cost) in others.

Throttle of HOTAS systems:

Warthog throttle - 16 bits controller (65536 points), contact less sensors. This throttle is sold standalone.

Cougar TQS with TUSBA adapter - 14 bits (16384 points) controller, pot's. Not available standalone.

Saitek X-52 throttle - 11 bits controller (2048 points), pot's. Not available standalone.

Saitek X-55 throttle - 12* bits controller (4096 points), pot's. Not available standalone.

Quadrants:

Saitek - 3 levers, 3 x2 positions switches - 10 bits controller (1024 points), pot's - low cost.

CH - 6 levers - 6 x2 positions switches - 8 bits controller (256 points), pot's - good quality.

*Not sure.

BTW - Compared with others, CH is a "VW Beetle" - in style and "mechanics".

I've gone through a few,

First the x55 throttle which lost 50% of one of the main axes after a few hours of use (the right one that's used when both are connected together, 50-100% only works) and a few button as well, bad build quality overall. Comfortable if you have big hands. A bit odd placement of hat switches but there is quite a lot of them, more than you'll need in BOS. I like the metal momentary switches on the base the most along with the back lightning. Big disappointment when I realized the speed break slider on the front is just a regular button and not an axis that can be used for zoom. Felt a bit like a toy overall.

G940 throttle was next, spiking rotaries and "hysterics" on pots made me shelf this pretty soon as well. The unit is quite tall made it uncomfortable to use for longer times for my seat. It feels solid though, build quality felt better than x55 but also fail when it comes to electronics. Good placement of the few buttons and hats that are on the throttle itself, nice that you can relabel the backlit buttons on the base easily.

Next I bought a used CH pro throttle from a user here on the forum with the "frankenpotato mod". Best so far, pots spike a little but not as much as the others and everything still works. Love that it's not on a pivot and instead slides back and forth, this way I can rest my hand on it and still keep the same throttle position even if I put some weight down to press a button. With a small pice of adhesive velcro you can add a throttle detent for emergency setting/afterburner. That helps immensivly during combat. Franken mod added axes are oddly placed and dremel job is a little bit sloppy but very usable for stuff that you don't need to constantly change like prop rpm, radiators and so on. Lots and lots of button on the base but hard to remember what I bound to what without labels and back lightning. Overall best build quality, best comfort, and still is in 100% working condition unlike the others.

I'm tempted to buy a warthog throttle now.....

That throttle mounting clamp looks nice! What did you use? Link? :)

Those are TV mounts for pole-based mounting - and I'm really happy with them. I needed something that I could quickly remove as during the daytime I have the kids playing in the same area.

I have one for the throttle which has 2 degrees of freedom (rotate, tilt):

And one for the collective which has 4 degrees of freedom (2 x rotate, 2 x tilt):

(both pictures have direct webshop links)

Before I did the joystick mod, I used one for the joystick and one for the throttle. Now I have one dedicated for the collective so I don't have to adjust the swivels each time I jump from heli to planes - I simply put on the other mount.

Btw, if you're in Europe, CPC Farnell has them (they're the same company):

Oh, forgot to mention - I use 3M adhesive velcro tape for mounting the throttle. Easy to remove, holds tight.
