Anyone still playing in the snow?

I flew couple of snow map missions recently in campaign. Not bad at all, I will be flying full campaigns from summer to winter eventually. Gives nice diversity imo.

Absolutely. I love the snow missions.... the devs captured the whole feel of winter time with the snow and the low sun on the horizon and the thick heavy clouds extremely well. They understand that winter time isn't just a white landscape but a whole different look and feel.

I'm loving having more than one season seeing as we had winter for nearly two years... But nothing is stopping me from going back. I've recently been playing the single player campaign in a kind of progression from one scenario to the next kind of as I feel like it. Back on the snow missions and its great!

I love the deep cold.

The lighting conditions, cloud, landscape and environment has been done brilliantly. It is an absolute joy to fly and admire the winter landscape. It presents a fantastic challenge for bombing and navigation (I turn off the HUD), and you really have to concentrate on the subtle details and study the map and instruments hard.

I've played a few of the summer maps, but have now gone back to the snow and ice.

Hardly... makes me shiver :P

I still fly the winter maps. Drive tanks in them too. Those maps are so much better than some give them credit for being. Certainly not the bland white some claim.

I have to agree with all the positive comments on the winter maps...  I love flying in the snow...  My kids know nothing of the history of BOS and flew the summer maps a few times and have been begging to fly in the snow...

I haven't seen any winter maps on the official Normal server for quite a while. It's too bad too. Their bigger winter map was pretty good and with a little tweaking could be excellent. One or two in the rotation would be good. Shame to have snow maps and not use them at all.

I have flown on the winter maps occasionally since summer and autumn got released. It really is quite beautiful and a nice contrast to the new maps, but I find, that you actually have to turn things a bit around in your head, when changing from one map to the other. On winter maps, navigation is extremely hard, but on the other hand, aircraft and ground objects are extremely easy to spot against the ground. On summer/autumn maps it's the exact reverse.

Now that I've been playing exclusively on summer and autumn map for more than a month as a therapy, I'm starting to enjoy again flying on winter maps.

Still a wash for the eyes if doing ground attack duty during plain daylight, but in early morning or evening, with a low sun or under a thick cloud cover, the atmosphere is just great and I enjoy flying in these conditions.

I have to admit that I didn't fired up a winter map since summer and fall maps has been released. And as much as I love the new maps and appreciate the work which had been necessary for creating them, I must say that the winter map is more spot on then the new ones. it appeals more realistic and less cartoonish.

Stalingrad or Luki?

What you preferred?

And what kind of tweaking it's need?

The best server currently online (DED Random Expert Beta) has wintermaps every now and then.

I like it. Adds to the diversity. Always summer gets old after a while just like winter did. Even thou personally I am still a little frosted from all the months of winter only:)

After playing around with the summer/autumn maps for a while then I got into a winter mission and I noticed directly that winter is beautiful.

Its just that you got tired of winter after a while but now it feels good again flying in the winter :)

WoL has a few snow maps still, which is good, I was worried that Summer/Fall would be spammed too much.

Yes, searching for the Santa Claus & Christmas trees that glow in the night.

The Battle of Stalingrad was at it's most crucial stage in Winter, with Uranus, the aerial bridge, Wintergewitter, and Little Saturn. Of course I'm going to play that :)

I do, whenever the online server I login to has a winter map :-)

I am a SP player & very happy with the new maps -I play them with PWCG 90% of the time.Occasionally I will play a single mission that is over the old Winter map which is an ok difference, but I was pretty tired of them when I welcomed the Summer & Fall!

I haven't since I got my new video card last week but I will today so I can see how winter looks on ultra settings.

Slightly OT....I still play CloD as well ....of course that might be expected,so here's another question:how many go back & play the original Il-2? SAS has many attractive variations -the C.U.P. "everything " mod download has many attractive features with many many aircraft & built in mods. I DO go back a few times a week but only really to finish campaigns & especially to play Pacific Carrier missions that still are quite beautiful.I figure it will be forever be fore Studio 777 gets to that part of the World!

I've been trying to go back to my SAS DBW to fly the new Aviaskins MiG-3 and cockpit over the new Moscow map. I never finish a flight though. It just doesn't come anywhere near the new Il2 series. When the MiG-3 is released I'm sure it will be my main plane.
