Well, some people have made a thread about rudders in the aircraft being too soft, as well as their rudder pedals being unrealistic etc.

I just want to throw my rather large grain of salt into it as well.

Many people flying this sim have rudder pedals below their desks, stick and throttle on it. This is a very close approximation of sitting in front of desk flight simming, but no real aircraft.

You see, in almost all somewhat more sporty aircraft, gliders and fast single seater Ultralights and aerobatics aircraft and others of the sorts your legs go forwards, with your feet just below your lower backside on the horizontal plane, rather like the chap below. This prevents all the blood from draining out of his Brains, into the feet as

quickly as lets say, a Cessna.

It also means that you can apply a lot more force to the pedals than you could on sitting upright.

For realism that meanst that you should transform your beach chairs to a Flight Sim Seat.

And look how far apart the real pedals are compared to most PC pedals. That's similar in effect to using a small desktop joystick vs the full length one. Makes them much more sensitive.

 

My home "office" is really more set up for gaming than working. I have a race car style chair which is suitable for gaming but for working I like a chair that's straight up and not reclined.

One can sit and use your rudder pedals like in the plastic model, but this don't change the way that pedal work, and don't change the way that the game deal with the inputs received from pedal.

 

Add a "15 KG" spring in rudder pedal don't change the electric inputs send for the game, don't change the processing in the game - besides that probable broke the pedal :) and give you tendinitis. :)

 

At the best this can give you control sensations near the real life experience, but not control like real life for the game.

 

These comparisons game controllers X real life controllers is pointless.

I also found that lowering my chair as low as possible gives me the best feeling both from immersion and controllability point of view.

 

That plastic model seems inaccurate - or at least the legs look like they are at unnatural angles.

Pretty close to how I use my MFG Crosswinds. (They are adjustable between 46 and 52cm, btw)

Well, in the Fw190 a Gynecologist could give you a full examination. The tips of your feet should be on the same height as your Bottox.

FWIW, I think this is a 190 cockpit.

I'm neither a small nor excessively light person, and I've apparently got a mix of bikers and womens legs, so rather substantial thighs. I struggle in most old fashioned gliders with the rear extremes. However in the 190 you can spread so far, if the stick wasn't there, you could take your female/male (not discriminating) companion with you, between your legs performing pleasurable acts.

It is however also rather confined around the shoulders.

I didn't really like sitting in the 190, it was almost like a Bathtub. 

 

In the 109 you are a bit more stretched out and collected. Your feet are much higher and closer to one another and you aren't as upright. 

I would describe the two, when looking from behind, the 190 is more triangular, the head being the top, the feet on the bottom, while the 109 is very square, and you have equal room for your feet and head.

However, I'm probably slightly too large for either. They are better fits for people in the 1.70m range. However, I would like to point out that the 109 had the adjustable seat that could be set up for larger pilots, a fact they conveniently forget to mention in all the documentaries.

 

In a High G Situation I would rather sit in a Bf109 than the Focke. However, on a long range booze cruise the Focke is definetly more comfortable, because the position of the feet is far less tiring, since you can actually rest them, while you get a cramp in the 109 , because of the pedal position.

 

In many ways I see it as a comparison between an Ask-8 and any generic plastic glider. The Guys love the K-8 the first 2 hours, because it's light and a pleasure to fly, and they will curse it after that because the seat is almost fully upright and everything hurts.

The guys in the plastic will curse them for being big, heavy and slow to respond, but after 2h they will sing about the pleasures of not bleeding out the anus.

I use these... they are pretty ok, not too. narrow. saitek pro

 

Way better in ROF because of curves than in BOS

 

you can't have linear or pseudo curves with plastic junk input controls.

They aren't appropiate if combined with a stick. It should be about twice as wide and the pedals close to upright.

there's no wider pedals I saw on the market. GA pedals are even closer. Not all but lots of them.
