En route way points?

Just a quick & maybe dumb question. Right now with the latest version 1.01 I am getting one waypoint ( golden arrow thing-y ) over my start-point airport.That's it, & if I put auto pilot on ,my planes simply circle that way point.If I want to fly to target area I do it manually ,carefully following the map.This is ok ,since the distances in missions are short,but is there something I over-looked when I set advanced settings or campaign map before the campaign so I could use auto pilot a little more ?  I am afraid if I miss one of the waypoints n the inflight map I may not trigger opposing forces action.Did I miss something i?Thanks !

you can change the distance to the initial waypoint to be farther so your autopilot might have more time to line itself up properly. i think i remember pat saying that it has something to do with the radius at which it will detect you going through a waypoint and it being a little to slim.
