Flynco Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Hi for gaming is better I5 6600k or I7 6700k ? my old pc is still an quad core q6600 (2007). I change my pc every 7/8 years..... Bye
Bullets Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I am looking into upgrading at the moment and the difference in price is way bigger than the difference in performance. Because of this I am choosing the I5 as its only rated slightly worse than the I7 but it is waaaay cheaper!
Dakpilot Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Benefits of i7 over i5 are higher base clock speed 4ghz vs 3.5 and hyperthreading 8 threads vs 4 however when under load i7 will run to 4.2 turbo and i5 to 3.9 narrowing the margin, and hyperthreading has no real benefit yet in today's games http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-6700K-vs-Intel-Core-i5-6600K/3502vs3503 Although with your expected upgrade timescale it would make sense to get the i7 things may well change in 3-7 years as new things (DX12 etc. will make better use of i7) really a case of price/performance An alternate for a long term upgrade could also be X99/5820k (similar price ) or 5930k but those really only would benefit much if the future is more sympathetic to 6 core 12 threads, and in some situations can be outperformed by 6700k currently Cheers Dakpilot
Ala13_Kike Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I prefer I5 and pay the difference over one I7, in graphic card
reddog=11blueleader* Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I have I7, plenty fast, although I fly other sims that require plenty cpu power.
Ala13_Kike Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 The difference of price, in my country, I7 vs I5 are 155€ aprox plus expensive the I7. All depend, in my oppinion, if you have in mind to do SLI or CFX, I7 can be the best option, if not, I5-k with OC, and pay these 155€ in a better graphic card. The games and simulators that we have now in the market, for me, do not justified these extra cost for CPU. But if you have money for both options, I7
Flynco Posted December 9, 2015 Author Posted December 9, 2015 many thak for your exsplanation, my friends
dburne Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I-7 - Hyperthreading ( 4 cores and 4 virtual cores), I-5 = 4 cores, no virtual. I think the I-7 has slightly larger L2 cache ( not a big deal for gaming really). Likewise, no real benefit of the hyper-threading for gaming - in fact, I disable hyper threading on my systems - as it does not really help performance for my games and my cpu cores run a little cooler. Hyper threading is good for things like video processing where it can speed things up some. I-7 has a little more muscle, but there are many than can get a good overclock with good cooling with an I-5 on par with an I-7. If money is no concern, go ahead and grab the I-7. Otherwise the I-5 will do quite well. If you want to overclock, just be sure and get the K processor whichever one you go with, makes overclocking very, very easy with the unlocked multiplier. I have been running an I-7 4820K at 4.50 ghz for just over 2 years now, has been rock solid and not a single glitch to date. I do run a Corsair H100i closed loop cooler for the cpu, keeps it nice and cool. Love it. 1
