muff1n Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) I've been an owner of the Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X for some time now and asking myself if it's worth to buy a new stick ? is there really a big difference between this one and for example saiteks x52/x55, 3D PRO, T16000M or the CH products? I don't have pedals, but thinking about these too: http://mfg.simundza.com/products, but again is it worth ? was watching many videos and forums regarding those sticks and there were always issues, there hasn't been a thread where everyone was pleased, that's why I've opened this thread, because I'm confused Edited December 7, 2015 by Muffin
Brano Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I have this russian baby for not nearly 50 euros and Im very satisfied.Price vs quality, best buy ever for me https://flightsimcontrols.com/store/joysticks/cobra-m5/ And it looks like a flight stick, not a toy
Sokol1 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 If your HOTAS X work fine, no motive to change for X-52/X-55, CH Hotas. Eventually their (low cost) potentiometers will wear and make the joy unusable. Logitech 3D PRO is low cost entry level joystick - inferior to the one that you have now - is option only if money is short and dont have other option around. A rudder pedal is a good addition, but if you are used to "twist rudder", a pedal don't will make you a ace. Anyway for BoS the VKB T-Rudder is a nice and more affordable pedal option. The best to do is: await the release of VKB Gladiator joystick line in end of this mouth/January 2016 to see if they worth their salt.
dburne Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) I have been using a TM Warthog for some time now, and love it. I have been using the Saitek Combat Pedals for some time as well, but I do have a set of the MFG Crosswinds on order scheduled to be produced this month. Really looking forward to getting them. I did a lot of reading on a lot of pedals, and I think they are about the cream of the crop from what I have read. Certainly not the cheaper option, but I want a set of pedals that I can use for a long time going forward. Pedals while not as essential as the joystick, are more about the immersion. I could not imagine flying without them any more. I have been extremely pleased with my hardware. Edited December 7, 2015 by dburne
BeastyBaiter Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 The X-52Pro and X-55 use Hall sensors, not pots, for the main joystick axes. The throttle uses pots, but I've never had an issue with them. They jitter 1% but that's easily filtered out and even without filtering, it isn't noticeable other than the technochat on the side of the screen. CH uses pots for all axes, but they are good quality pots so it isn't an issue. No filtering is required for them in my experience. In any case, there isn't anything wrong with your current setup. The main advantage of the X-52, X-55, CH setup and WH is the additional buttons and axes on them. I think the X-55 is completely overkill for BoS/BoM. I have one + CH pedals and about half the buttons on the throttle + all the switches on the base are unassigned. The X-52 Pro is probably a better bet for BoS, it has enough buttons and is more comfortable. I had an X-52Pro prior to the X-55, it lasted about 8 years without issue. Still worked last time I plugged it in. If you are interested in more complex aircraft such as those in DCS, I would recommend going for more buttons though. The Ka-50 and MiG-21Bis in DCS were the reason I ultimately moved from the X-52Pro to the X-55.
JG27_Chivas Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I don't think many of the joysticks on todays market are very good, and I've bought most of them. The only ones that look remotely interesting that appear to have decent gimbals is the VKB line. Sold by Stratojet for VKB in north American.
indiaciki Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 (edited) I was using a CYBORG FLY 5 and Saitek rudder pedals. My FLY 5 stopped working. Now (for the last 2 months I'm using an x-box controller again - I've been using it while flying ROF. It works very well. I don't even use my rudder pedals.... Edited December 11, 2015 by indiaciki
