Finkeren Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) I was very pleased to see, that the devs have chosen to implement the much-needed overhaul of the scoring system together with the release of the MiG-3 for BoM. It really makes a lot of sense. Obviously, when you release an aircraft that's so awesome, that you automatically win just by flying it, it requires certain alterations to the scoring system. Here's how I think the changes are gonna play out: Spawn in MP in a MiG-3 = 10 points Start the AM-35A engine and enjoy the beastly sound = 5 points. Take off in a MiG = 5 points Fly around at altitude above 5000m = 1 point every 10 seconds (2 points, if you deploy flaps) Achieve air kill in the MiG = Instant victory for Soviet team, rotate maps Achieve ground unit kill = NA (MiG pilots don't concern themselves with what goes on that far below) What are your thoughts on how the new scoring system is going to play out? Wulf Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Hmmmm ... sounds similar to the current scoring system for the Yak. 1
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 The scoring system looks great. Does one lose points if they add gun pods to their MiG?
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 Wait a minute, you forgot the most important point. How much for bringing it back and landing in one piece? I think you should get points for turning off the engine too. 1
Lusekofte Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) Point system always make people corrupt and difficult to deal with. I am in general against points. We do not need them to know who is good or not Edited December 6, 2015 by LuseKofte 2
PatrickAWlson Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I wouldn't know. I only fly the coffins. Mig is a coffin. It was mostly withdrawn by 43 for a reason. It was fast at high altitude. That's pretty much the sum of the good points. Average speed at lower altitudes. Nasty handling characteristics. Poor turn radius. Climb was not great. Difficult to control in a dive and at high speed. Unstable gunnery platform. Terribly under armed. It was pretty though.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Pat, in fact the MiG-3 performance is a bit of a mystery if you must - loved by many, hated by many too There were two very good threads started by Finkeren on the MiG-3 where everyone chipped in whatever information they could find, some good reads if you are interested. See here http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/19206-mig-3-climb-rate-what-expect/and here http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/19447-you-know-you-cant-wait-mig-3-any-longer-when/
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I'd assume you can use them to, uh... Buy more MiGs? Finkeren, clear this up please.
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 (edited) When you earn enough points you are rewarded with a P-39! It's kinda like grinding but different. Edited December 7, 2015 by [LBS]HerrMurf
Finkeren Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 I'd assume you can use them to, uh... Buy more MiGs? Finkeren, clear this up please. If it wasn't clear from the OP, I really don't care too much about the point system. I get why it's there, and I think it's great that the devs are tweaking it as the game evolves, but it's not something I care particularly about. If the points I earn were part of a bigger, ongoing "war", it might make me care more, but really there's no need. I play BoS/BoM for quite different reasons. This is pretty much the only competitive game where I feel like I'm not just hunting a bigger number on the screen. The flying and the immersion is enough in itself. I get more joy and satisfaction from a really good and intense dogfight that I lose, than I get from a sloppy boring one that I win. 2

bokepacha Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Wait. Take off is not instant win and map rotation? FIX IT!!
6./ZG26_Gielow Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 We need some kind of squad oriented action. Gathering players to fly together and not loners is the key for online action. 1
Yogiflight Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Yes Gielow, I totally agree. It is one of the reasons, keeping me away from MP, because everything I read about it sounds to me like it is beeing an Egoshooter (exept the friday night bombing fun).

Gathering players to fly together and not loners is the key for online action. It does happen on some nights ..!! " good team work , it all depends who is flying at the time . I tend to follow the mission . Anybody can get shot down in this Sim no matter how good you are . 1
-TBC-AeroAce Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Best post in a pong time!!! Frinkeren if I ever see you in anything other than a mig 3 I'm calling foul play
BraveSirRobin Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Achieve ground unit kill = NA (MiG pilots don't concern themselves with what goes on that far below) What are your thoughts on how the new scoring system is going to play out? Points should probably be subtracted for MiG ground kills, just to reinforce this dicta.
=CFC=Conky Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Points should probably be subtracted for MiG ground kills, just to reinforce this dicta. Well, being that probably the only way a Mig is going to kill a ground target is by crashing into it because it got shot down, I think the scoring system is fine . Good hunting, =CFC=Conky

Only to the extent that you open your ears and heart for it, really. Otherwise you're just another pilot in another day of battle. Try the official teamspeak if you don't have people to fly with! Like all multiplayer, it's social in nature.
senseispcc Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 There where still some Mig-3 in service in 1944! I cannot say or find out how many but it is on the Leningrad front !
Finkeren Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) There where still some Mig-3 in service in 1944! I cannot say or find out how many but it is on the Leningrad front !Those were with the Black Sea Fleet and only a couple handfuls IIRC. They were practical for armed recon missions over the sea due to their high altitude performance and relatively long range for a fighter. I think the number of operational MiGs in the VVS was less than 200 at the end of 1942. The MiG-3 was chiefly a 1941-early 1942 plane. Edited December 8, 2015 by Finkeren
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 They also served in lots of PVO and training units from 1943 onwards, together with loads of earlier designs and the lend-lease stuff that had been deemed inappropriate for front line duties (P-40s and Hurricanes after 1942, and the Spitfire once it finished its short spell on the front).
