Jade_Monkey Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Is there any way to cause some minor damage to the player's plane on a SP mission? I tried the Command Damage MCU, with both major and minor damage but dit didnt work. I would like to simulate either aileron, flap or landing gear malfunction in a SP mission. Thanks in advance!
JimTM Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Try triggering the damage command (set to minor) multiple times. Each time you trigger, a bit more damage occurs.
Jade_Monkey Posted December 5, 2015 Author Posted December 5, 2015 I'll test it more. Even a major damage didnt do anything for me.
JimTM Posted December 5, 2015 Posted December 5, 2015 Try this mission. Start it, press F12 then F11, and then right-click and drag down to pan down to the FW190. The damage command is automatically applied multiple times.
Jade_Monkey Posted December 5, 2015 Author Posted December 5, 2015 I just tested this (before you posted) and it works. But it goes from no visible damage to plane falling apart without any intermediate steps like ailerons jammed, or leaks etc. So I guess this MCU wont get me what I was looking for. I'll check out your test just in case, but I created one with incremental minor damages (~7 your plane falls apart) did not show small damage symptoms other than some invisible health bar going down.
No601_Swallow Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) It would be nice to be able to specify loss of an engine, for instance, or broken rudder controls! Ah, to be an evil mission builder... Edited December 6, 2015 by No601_Swallow
Jupp Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 ~S~ Fellows, Back in the halcyon days of Microsoft's Combat Flight Simulator... there was a program called, "360 Radar". You could create system failures and faults via Host to Client connections. A very very cool feature indeed. Sadly, I no longer have these files, and the creator has flatly stated they no longer support them since 2002. Here is the website I found after many searches into this subject. You can see this did exist for "FS 98/CFS". http://www.hanssensandco.be/More/Claude/CHPrograms/More-Claude-CHProg-UK.htm Blue Skies, !S -Jupp-
No601_Swallow Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 With liberal amounts of rocket science and serious coding skillz (not to mention infinite patience). , you can use scripts to coax CloD to disable many components of aircraft. I believe similar effects can be done in DCS using "Lua" scripting language (whatever that is). Were it not for my own post-CloD-scripting PTSD, I'd almost wish for a similar capability to introduced into BoS.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 DCS uses a slightly different - pretty interesting - system where the mission maker and the player can add the statistical probability of a component going kaput at any time of the flight. I forgot the specifics of it, but you can pick the level of probability for each component (i.e. if you want the instruments to go bonkers plus the left engine, you can do that without, say, risking the right engine and so on). This is all done inside the interface so no fancy coding needed. Would be interesting to see this ported to Il-2.

CloD have similar thing at "release" - the "Physical Weathering" slider - that can randomly generate plane failures. Don't remember if this even work... vanished in some "patch". Anyway "typical" players claim against this (as they always do for some "innovation")...

If I remember correctly (and I probably don't), I think they wanted to have a difficulty setting to enable a given probability of engine failure (and I think only engine failure?). In my evil dreams I'd like to be able to disable rudder controls, or gear failure, etc! (Talking of CloD features that'd be cool in BoS, I got a great kick out of a script that generated ground vehicles (fire tenders and fuel bowsers, etc) when your aircraft landed. They'd vary depending on whether you were damaged or not! Very cool. Maybe some time in BoS (and I know you can just about simulate the same thing with activating vehicles in the ME, but these were completely automatic!). Ah CloD - you broke my heart! ) Edited December 10, 2015 by No601_Swallow
