Glorious AI Flight Leader.

On my second mission I flew a patrol with a half dozen Yaks. Glorious AI Flight Leader spotted a lone Stuka ~9k in the distance and ordered us to attack. 

 

Seconds later a dozen 109Gs blipped into view range flying about 1,500m directly above out intercept route.

 

Glorious AI Flight Leader, loathe to go back on his promise to attack the Stuka, led the flight straight and level under the 109s with predictable results.

 

My question: Is there any way to override Glorious AI Flight Leader's wishes in this situation?

I have noticed several instances where AI flights just continue blithely on despite a raging dogfight going on nearby.

 

And unfortunately, usually I'm on the wrong side of such behavior: My flight gets drawn into a battle with multiple enemy flights, basically a hopeless battle, and then the new friendly flight shows up and just flies past us while we get massacred.

 

An improvement to that AI behavior would certainly be appreciated.

Much worse, my flight moves on and leaves me alone with the enemyplanes. That is really nice.
