They must know their market, hence the price. I do think it would put some people off, but those same people probably don't factor in that this is not a cheap hobby anymore, with a sizeable outlay in PC components, peripherals, and even internet!

I'm into Star Citizen for $125 so far, for one imaginary spaceship, and that game is not even out until 2015...

I think that RoF is probably the most expensive game I have ever bought.  I started with ICE and added all the aircraft, some of the weapon and field mods, the Channel Map and St. Mihiel. It didn't hurt too much, because I was able to space it out though.  I admit, the decision to go gold vs. silver on the pre-order revolved around an unexpected bonus at work.

Agreed, ROF got me, I didn't see it coming, just a little here, a little there and wow. (got everything except the strutter right now)

But ROF is really that good, well worth it !

ROF:

I purchased the ICE Edition shortly after downloading/installing the F2P version ( talking minutes here).

I purchased the channel map, and the Felixstowe - maybe couple other planes can't really remember, it has been almost a year ago.

That gave me plenty to work with so I held off on purchasing anything else, especially the field mods.

94.99 for a game, thats just insane.

Im sorry, but it is.

Im afraid that will put off a fair amount of people who cant throw money around every witch way.

Sry for the negativity.

No it is not when you look at it relatively like some have pointed out in this thread but consider... That $95 is for the Premium Edition .. which does come with more stuff than the Standard Edition. Now .... what's going to happen is this .. When the initial pre order reports start coming in and as the devs continue their work.. some people are going to read those reports and decide to bite the bullet and order.. and kick themselves for not doing it when they could have gotten it for less... and time will march on .. and after the second period of early access is opened up .. and the second wave of pre order reports start coming in...  and as the devs continue their work.. some people are going to read those reports and decide to bite the bullet and order.. and kick themselves for not doing it when they could have gotten it for less... and time will march on .. and then the sim will be released.. finally... Then.. all the full reviews will start pouring in ... and as the devs continue their work.. and release the La-5 & the FW 190 .... some people are going to read those reports and decide to bite the bullet and order those planes.. and kick themselves for not doing it when they could have gotten it for less... and time will march on .. and then .. The whole kit and kaboodle will be had for under $60 .... :P:lol:

Look.. I paid full price for every edition of IL2. $50 for IL2 ... $50 for Forgotten Battles ... $40 for the Aces Expansion ..... $40 for Pacific Fighters .... $20 (I think it was .. for the Pe-2 add on .. which was my very first digital download.. :) ) ... and then I turned around and paid full price for IL2 1946.. which I think was $40 .. but dagnabbit I don't remember.. ... and the point I am making is .. Now you can get '46 for under $10 .. and in some cases for free with another purchase ... but if I had the option of trading in my over a decade of fun from IL2... for $230  (That's the $240 I paid for all my incarnations minus the $10 .. or less I'd spend buying it now..) and mind you I didn't even include the gifts I made to folks trying to turn them on to simming .. from FB .. to the first FB Gold .. to '46.. and some of those gifts included a joystick... I'd easily be kicking a grand squarely in the pants ...) or forgetting all the great folks I have met over the last 12 years and all the history I have learned as a direct result of my involvement with IL2... $hite!! For $240 I got the better deal by far...

I doubt that will throw off too many... Look some of us can cry broke .. and even actually be broke ... but if you can afford high speed internet you can afford this sim. At $100 this sim is for me either a week, maybe two with no beer or lunch... In which case I'd survive because there is always tea and dinner...  and I can do without beer of lunch for a week..  or a hour of OT a day for a week.. I don't think I am alone in that respect.

You already did by stating the price is insane.

Yeah .... but i bet you he will have this sim on his HD come next summer..... or sooner.

You've done it now Baron, you are about to be lynched.

Lynching should not be joked about.. .. serious business that ... ... I'm just sayin....

Positive mate. My SNES came with the basic SFII, so when they brought out the 'Turbo' version, I just had to have it. I could make a fortune on ebay with all my SNES games. Sorry for OT BC.

No worries... :salute:

I can't remember what ROF cost but it has given me a lot of joy over several years and will continue to do so for many years to come.  CLoD ... not so much.  I think BOS will be a great value and am happy to support.

I bought ROF online for AU$69(and change) when it first came out, which was about the average price of sims at the time where I live. Spent way more than that one planes since.

I 'm lucky for ROF  just try it last week with 50 % discount

DemoIceUpgrade     $14.99
2x Albatros D.ii&III     $9.83
3 x Field Mod            $8.26

compare to IL2 (s) never  see a  price discount after 5 years release

I'll give up lunch for a week but thats it..beer has to stay! I may be hungry but at least I won't be thirsty( or sober)!

94.99 is not that much for a game IMO. We all have spent at least that on other games. I see X-box games for 59..69.99 flying of the shelves in best buy all day long. Buy two of them you're in deeper than BOS.

Funny that you should mention that -- with XBox, development costs should theoretically be easier.  Everyone has the same systems, or a few variations of it, and it is very predicatable to the developer the hardware they will be running on.  It seems strange to me that XBox games should be consistently so expensive.

old rich money- this game isn't for the kids - young ones wanting to do flight sims don't spend $100 on this game.   Good luck getting new blood in.

Your right, ;)  the young ones will drop $200 on a pair of sport shoes and buy ten Xbox/PS3 games a year at $60 each or spend hundreds on WT, 3 million people on a pay to win/play system that everybody says would kill the genre...I dont agree with it but facts/xbox/WT sales speak for themselves

It looks a bit cheaper if you put it in euros: 70 €.  ;) And if Call of Duty - Gosts is 60 € on Steam then 70 € for BOS isn't expensive.

I'm from the land of Oz. Here we pay between $90-110AUD for a new game. Exchange this to USD thats between $88 to $103 USD. So to me $95USD seems reasonable.

Plus I bought the premo addition just to fly the FW-190 and the LA-5.

Compared to AAA games like BF4, which was $79 AUD plus their premo package $50AUD, I consider IL2BoS a bargain

S!

All that matters is how you spend your money. When I first time read about BoS and the hint that there might be an early access = already put money aside for it. And it paid off. Could easily afford the Premium. All you have to do is some longer term planning of your finances. If you know for certain there is something coming in 6 months, for example, you got plenty of time to put aside some cash, like 10 "insert currency here" per month. Should not break your finances. If you want something you will do what it takes to get it ;)

At first glance, yes. But if you take WT clientele then all starts to make sence. The question is, can the BoS business model base its income prognosis on WT microtransactions popularity. 100$ for your typical westerner WWII nut is not much, although we want to cover way broader audience with BoS, don`t we? Hard nut to crack indeed.

I have a firm price border as to when I buy games. $40 is the mark for me, and I spend that rarely, if on any AAA game. Especially when after 3 months it is not so hard to catch a 50% discount, which will definitely concern BoS too.

One thing I have noticed is that quite a few people, at least in Finland, tend to think that 1$=1€ in some subconsious level. When in reality say 95$ is a bit over 70€ or something like that. It might actually be good for sales to have price in euros also.

One wonders therefore on your agonising about pre-ordering BoS yet dropping $95 on DCS: WWII.  I suppose neither is an AAA game so the limit does not apply.

I'm certainly not criticising your purchasing habits, but perhaps the lack of consistency in your comments.

For me I just equate $90 to £60 and that sounds ok to me.  I think the original IL2 was £35 in 2001 so an extra £25 isn't so bad.

Darn it, this is why I was asking in the other thread when the cutoff was. :(

I already have it ;)

Only the standard edition mind you. Mainly because La5 doesn't interest me and Fw190 will be available in the store after release, for less than 40$ i would hope. Little trinkets and lables i can do without. Besides i haven't the time to "play" in weekdays at the moment, work and all that.

Any ways, i wasn't talking about me when i made the first post. Just because i have more money than i really need doesn't automatically mean everything is "cheap".

The reason i posted in the first place was this actually, http://il2sturmovik.com/, in there it doesn't even seem like you can order anything but the premium edition. Thats what i found strange (i used the word "insane" :))

If this is the way its suppose to be i find it very strange indeed.

You can only order the premium version now up until game release. After that you can get standard as well as premium. Not sure why they did it that way, but thats the way they did it.

Finding new blood would be easier if most of this forum remembered there is a 60$ standard edition! Most posts in this thread seems to assume the minimum price of admission will be 100$.

Btw those of us outside NA, are happy the game is priced in USD worldwide. 60$(45€) compares well to games on Steam or Gamersgate or brick&mortar being sold at 50-60€.

Also remember that there probably will be sales, and as a rule games drop in price after a period of being on sale.

The jokes on you since $40 was max pledge I spent on the DCS : WWII. The first DCS module I ever bought was priced at €7,50 too. Don`t know where you got the $95 figure from.

You're quite right - I had premium on the brain. Apologies.

The point remains though.
