How do you land your P-40? (correctly, no ground loop)

I cross the threshhold at 150mph, 0% throttle, flare very carefully to touch down at 120mph. The wheel brakes are engaged at all times during the landing. Directly after the first contact between wheels and ground I push slightly forward on the stick to keep the reticle just on the horizon and prevent ground looping using only rudder.

At 30mph I pull back hard on the stick to get full control of through the tailwheel, after which I correct only using wheel brakes.

I am about 80% succesfull at preventing ground loops below 30mph and 95% above 30.

Edit: every other aircraft I do carrier landings with, meaning the tailwheel touches down first and the wings are at full stall, means no bumping.

I fly the final at 115 mph

I usually put some throttle in (20-30%) to have some propwash for rudder authority, while I tap on brakes to slow down.

I do,too after touchdown. The istructional video says you should get hard on the breakes. I Didin't try that, yet.

So far for me this is been the hardest plane to land and take off in. Good to see I'm not alone :)

Well, this is mine. First Youtube Upload ever:

I use no power at all. Edited by Klaus_Mann

You're way too fast on final. 115mph on final with engine idle and as you flare your airspeed will drop way below 100 (about 80 I think) at touchdown. 3 point her. and give 20% throttle on the ground in bursts and then brake with both brakes while pulling stick to max.

at 25min (check landing!):

Nice wheelie... :)

Here's mine, from when we didn't have summer maps yet... a little steeper than indiaciki's so that I can see the runway over the nose, but as slow as he recommends:

Yes. I think that's how it's done. You used the brakes very early. I prefer shorter finals because of vision. But your video proved that you should not hesitate using brakes firmly as the instructor said.

I think my main issue is just dealing with mph instead of kph like the other planes. Which is funny cause I'm from the US and we use mph but all my flight sims use kph so that's what I know best.

I'm used to knots  in aviation not mph. I had a hard time coverting to km/h...mp/h is just weird for a european.

Well, if I know the Specs for an aircraft like a Cessna 150 which takes off at 65 knots, lands at 55, and cruises at 100.

And I know my Ask-13 glides best and tows at 85kph, lowest rate of sink is 75kph, gets scary at 140kph and falls apart above 200kph.

I would have no idea of the top of my head which one is faster just by knowing the numbers. I always have to internally convert the two. No intuition.

"Fly by the numbers" at its best
