Hi. I'm just after advice, the free download of Windows 10, [ i'm running Windows 7 at the moment ] is it a simple download and over write of the existing OS, [just clicking screen prompts] and most impotently, does BoS run as per normal, and I do not have to re-install game/profiles/joystick settings. And I understand that ounce installed there's no going back !!!

Cheers. :salute:

I installed W10 about a month ago.  BoS runs about the same, if not a fraction faster.  Startup times for the computer are a bit longer however.

Thanks Feathered, so there's no need to reinstall BoS, it's all there after the Windows 10 install ?

I was very surprised, my windows 10 upgrade went pretty much seemlessly every programme continued to work and nothing was messed up

however the latest Nvidia win 10 drivers have been a bit hit or miss, and have noticed some big performance hits, (may have been my fault, had left Fraps running when doing the install doh!)

reverting to the earlier drivers corrected the issue

Thanks Dakpilot, that's good advice.

Honestly. Other than the god-awful Win10 interface, what does a Win7 user with a 4 year old system like myself gain from installing it?

I would also like to know that...

There are definitely performance benefits in other games, and it is likely that as newer more mature drivers optimised to take advantage of Win 10 emerge, the trickle down will benefit us

So far I cannot see a downside to the free upgrade, pretty much all of the 'features' some people don't like can be turned off, upgrading was really no more difficult than updating BoS

* however everyone uses different programs so individual experience will be different

That's right.  Everything stays how you left it.  Right down to customised icons for folders and the like.

I too took the plunge.

It's almost as if there's no difference between my previous W7 and this new W10.

I actually like the interface. It keeps the old start menu so there's nothing lost there. But one new thing that works really well is the big Cortana bar. You can type or say anything in there and go right to it. Either on the web or the PC.

Real actual benefits of W10?

DX12

The ability to use more than 16GB of ram without the Pro version (not really a big deal)

No separate anti-virus program. Windows Defender is built in so there's no separate Microsoft SE or Norton or whatever.

For a UHD monitor, it's desktop looks better, there are less oddities like out of size text and such.

But yeah, normally I'm not the type to just go and upgrade my OS without buying a whole new PC. But in this case since it was free, so why not.

No problems here... Installation was a doddle. All my files worked as before :)

Had it running for quite some time now.

Remember to chase up drivers for printers etc, but so far so good!
