Fisher7 Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Hi Guys, This is my first time using PWCG, I have not used it in ROF. I downloaded version 1 and followed the instructions to set it up. I used the BosCampaing jar file to load it. I created a campaign and accepted the first mission it generated. I found it in the game missions menu but: - it did not provide any discription of the mission - and when I tried to load the mission it froze the game. Any idea of what is wrong? Thanks!

Try to make another mission and see what happens.
Fisher7 Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 I tried to generate other missions but they do not appear in the game missions menu. I aslo created a new campaign but it did the same as the previous one - the first mission is generated in the game but when I try to load it the game freezes. Huh...

I have had few freezes when loading missions but it is rare. Generally they load just fine. Does other SP or stock campaign missions in BoS load correctly? Do you have freezes otherwise in the game? Fisher7 Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 No, the game never froze before. SP and stock campaign missions run fine. I found a post of D_Konig at the other thread. He writes: "Ugh, I still can't get this to work. Followed all the steps, select mission from mission screen, select 'start'. Cursor turns to spinning circle, 3 hours go by. Nothing happens. EDIT: When I try to load the PWCG mission into the IL2 mission editor, it says there's an error and won't load it. Someone with more brain power than me will have to figure this out, I give up." I think the same thing is happening to me.
PatrickAWlson Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Please post the mission that will not load in the exe.
Fisher7 Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 Thanks Pat for willing to have a look at it. Attached is the mission file that would not load: ...well... I got an error message from the website: Error You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file What do I do?

Fisher7 Posted November 29, 2015 Author Posted November 29, 2015 Thanks. Attached are the mission files that fail to load. Thanks for looking into this. I really appreciate your work. I see others are having similar issues. Missionfailstoload1.zip Missionfailstoload2.zip
PatrickAWlson Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I tried to generate other missions but they do not appear in the game missions menu. I aslo created a new campaign but it did the same as the previous one - the first mission is generated in the game but when I try to load it the game freezes. Huh... 777 products have this very strange caching system. If you load a mission from the text mission file into BoS, the game caches it somewhere (I don't know where). If you replace the text mission file with a different one of the same file name BoS will try to load the old one from its cache and not the new one. This behavior was introduced in RoF and this is what caused PWCG to start generating unique, date based file names for new missions. The problem comes in when you try to create another PWCG mission with the same campaign, same date as one that failed to load. BoS will keep attempting to load the failed one. The easiest thing to do is take a week's leave to change the date. Then a mission file with a different name will be generated. Alternative, if you are comfortable with the ME and don't want to lose a week of campaign time: 1. Generate a new mission on the same date. 2. Open the file in the ME and save it. BoS does not recognize changes in the text mission file (.mission) but it does recognize changes in the binary mission file (.msbin). 3. Fly the mission.
Fisher7 Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 Thanks Pat. The deeper problem remains though - the game would not load the first mission that is generated: the cursor turns into a spinning circle and nothing happens. I have downloaded again and reinstalled PWCG for BOS but it behaves the same way. Any idea?

When packaging a mission please: 1. Include both the mission and the eng files inthe zip 2. Do not change the file names Thanks Edited December 1, 2015 by PatrickAWlson
Fisher7 Posted December 3, 2015 Author Posted December 3, 2015 Thanks Pat. Mystery solved. I named the pilots in both campaigns after the Hungarian aces Szeverényi and Debrődy. The generated mission files therefore had the accented letters in the file name and I started suspecting. I generated two other campaigns with German pilots without letters with the accents - they run smooth. Unfortunately I deleted the files already and couldn't recover them. Sorry. Thanks again. Great work Pat!
