fjacobsen Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I have made a mission with 4 BF-110 (Player + 3 BF-110) attacking an artillery position. All aircraft take off, fly and bomb as they should. problem is when they should land... From the last enroute waypoint to the landing waypoint, placed at the near end of the runway and aligned with runway heading, they turn towards the airfield. Then they pass over the airfield, turn on their landing and nav lights. They then turn back for landing, lowering flaps and gear as they approach the airfield. But shortly before landing they retract gear and flaps and then make a new circle. This despite that the runway has been vacated for any aircraft. This is repeated until they either crash or more selvdom, actually land. Are there any specific settings or waypoint arrangements necessary to make them land ? FinnJ
coconut Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I've seen this happen at airfields that are at the tops of hills. The quick altitude change wrt to the ground makes them abort the landing, I suppose.
TP_Jacko Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Are you making them land in the same direction they took off. Which should be into the wind.
JimTM Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 (edited) Try placing the last waypoint at least 3,000m from the end of the runway (I placed mine in line with the runway). With that placement, the AI should turn on final and land. Edited November 27, 2015 by JimTM
fjacobsen Posted November 27, 2015 Author Posted November 27, 2015 I have tried to place the last waypoint both 10 and 5 km from the end of the runway. The landingwaypoint has been aligned with the runway and the runway is on relative flat ground. At least the BF-110 won´t land - or only land after serveral attempts. After flying the circuit over the airfield they do deply landinggear and flaps, then turn towards the airfield, only to retract gear, flaps and then throttle up again for a new attempt. FinnJ
JimTM Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Try using a different AI plane model and see if they land properly. Can you please attach your mission to this thread.
caryatid23 Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 I've seen this too -- with some of the double airfields ( like east of Kalach ). I found putting the Command:Land MCU at the end of the airfields where the two airfields do not almost meet allows AI to land w/o just circling as you describe. Cross winds do also seem to cause this behavior -- so when building a windy mission; your number of available landing airfields is reduced.
Jupp Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 (edited) ~S~ Jacobsen, Have you tried working with the airfields taxi waypoints before? Could it be that? If you set an Airfield to the runway, create entity, in the Airfield Properties, Edit Chart. You'll need to select, drag, and drop the "waypoint pathing" to match your intentions. That is, taxi, take off (the first VPP circle), landing (the second VPP circle), & taxi points. The top picture shows the exiting once an AI lands and the bottom one is taxi to take off. In the Mission Editor the Edit Chart items are seamlessly connected and form a complete logic. These are early examples from when I was first working these things out for myself. Good Hunting! fjacobsen Posted November 29, 2015 Author Posted November 29, 2015 After editing the taxi pats etc, it seems that the AI are doing a much better job landing more consistently. Also missplaced taxi path can let to the AI refuse to take of and dong weird things. So thank You Jupp for guiding me towards that issue. FinnJ
Jupp Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 ~S~ fjacobsen, As a former AH-1 Cobra Crewchief, I'm glad to have cleared the in-op for you. You're welcomed. Blue Skies, !S -Jupp-
