With the addition of tanks, the airfield radar has GOT to go!

Tanks can be seen on the map too easily. We need an option to turn off the airfield spotting radius!

I agree it has to go. Along with the tanks.

I would hope there is a way to differentiate between player tanks and player aircraft for the purposes of showing up on the "radar".  Though maybe that's not a reasonable expectation.

There needs to be a warning to let people know a field is under attack before they decide to use it. Otherwise, the airfield radar is the only alternative. If tanks can be eliminated from that, then field "radar" (visual confirmation) should stay unless there's a way to alert that the field is under attack. Blindly spawning into a field to get bombed or vulched is stupid.

Yep. Takes the fun out of everything. It's got to go.

I just want it like it was in RoF you can only see the "radar" when at the spawn menu.  That would be a great in between, but an option to turn it off completely is imperative.

There is a way, it happens every time on WoL when an objective is under attack.

About that spawning, sometimes you don't have an option...

Whatever happened to the meaning of, "Expert" in this game anyways?

That same radar you are looking at there is the same one in flight. If it is removed from in flight, the same is removed in the selection screen.

What are you talking about "expert?" There is absolutely no "expert" about spawning into a field under attack without knowing in advance it IS under attack. That is not historically accurate, nor is it "expert" - it's just stupid to think that anyone should blindly take off.

Make a siren go off at field if an enemy is within range? RoF/Clod does this already.

If a siren is going off when you spawn, end flight? Problem solved. No more radar.

Why is it radar when it is within visual range? It is literally everyone around the field going "Hey! They are over there, I can see them!"

The siren is not present in RoF unless you are already on the field, and when you are in the selection screen you actually see foes near the airbases. I'm fine with that.

But sirens are silly as the only measn, the way RoF has it is the best. The sirens actually serve their purpose for those already on the field. So everyone knows prior to getting into their plane that there are aircraft around. Everyone in their rides gets the siren to alert them.

Aces High has towers that you are in when you select your plane. You can see the enemy contacts around the field and that gives you an excellent idea of whether or not to take off. Or in which direction to take off. There, the engine start up is instant, so here where it takes a bit - it would serve very well to know the current attack especially since it is very much within visual range.

The big difference between RoF and WWII is that most of the planes have radios so the ground control can radio in that there are aircraft over there, or in that location, not absolute coords, but there's a huge difference between WWI and WWII with airborne radios. I know Russian aircraft are hit or miss for the first year or two of the war. As well as the Italian aircraft.

I disagree. the tanks are a great addition to the game.

I understand where you're coming from FurousMeow, but no amount of radio communication or second hand information from someone that can see an enemy is going to afford the location information that the radar circle gives.

The spawning object for tanks is identical to the airfield object so it gives a radar circle...but it may not necessarily be simulating an airfield...it's just a spawning area since the distances to have two established bases that will give a decently short travel time for tanks to actually have fun in the game wouldn't really be plausible. It's more of a "...and we join our heroes on their perilous journey in progress to the combat zone" type deal.

I can easily put "AIRFIELD UNDER ATTACK" tags/icons on the map so you'd know the threat is there before you spawn when an enemy gets near. That's easy. All seeing eye radar is a silly addition to a WW2 sim. It kills gameplay for myself and a lot of others I've talked to.

A compromise on the airfield radar would be to change the radar overlay color from blue to red when there are enemy aircraft close to the field instead of pinpointing the location of every aircraft.

Could it be possible to change the color of the planes to white? If we could do this, people wouldn't be able to identify friendlies from enemies by glancing at the radar.

It would be really cool if you got actual radio calls to tally enemy units. But in the absence of that, gamey radar is a good substitute. An "under attack" message is not the way you'd communicate spotting the enemy IRL. You'd give numbers, heading, location, altitude etc. So yeah gamey "radar" is doing basically that. Unless they develop some much more elaborate system, it's what we've got. WWII aircraft did mostly not go into battle blind.
