Food for thought..... It slipped by me....

I don't know how we all missed this.. I did some checking to see if it was mentioned and found nothing on it so I am posting.. Had I not been dealing with a boatload of stuff in my personal life I probably would have posted this myself a month ago... This is an important time of year in the life of this sim and it needs to be considered that this sim is only a year old......

Team statement announcing  creation of 1CGS December 11, 2012

BoS Pre Order began July 26, 2013

Early Access began on November 13, 2013

BoS was released officially on October 22, 2014

BoM Pre Order Announced March 31, 2015

BoM Early Access began on July 6, 2015 with the introduction of the I-16..

In that time there have been 114 Developer Diaries. If you count from December 11, 2012 to now that is approcimately one every 1.3 weeks ... Of course we know that there were weeks where there were no diaries.. and weeks where there were more than one but it factors out to about every 1.3 weeks.

In the 13 months since BoS was released there have been 13 updates offering literally hundreds of improvements, features and fixes including additional maps, AI aircraft, boats, utilities, improvements in lighting, and more. Since BoM was announced and it's pre order opened there have been 4 soon to be 5 new flyables from that theater, soon we will have driveable tanks, another method of control that most importantly does not alter the overall fidelity of the sim. The only thing I see coming out of mouse control is eventually and sooner rather than later people who bought it without a joystick will be saying saying... "I gotta get a joystick....!  :joy: " because of the way it is implemented to begin with. Yet the door will be opened to more potential simmers who , coming from a gamer world still may not see the need for a joystick or all those "extra" peripherals.. until they get a chance to experience the sim. Even on a basic level.. BoS is a thing of beauty...and it alwsy has been just a diamond in the rough, one that is still being polished I might add.

When you consider the fullness of what has been accomplished in this sim since the partnership was announced almost 3 years ago.. I don't see how one can not be impressed. Communication has been consistant, progress has been steady and the future looks very bright. I wish I had more time to enjoy it .. but I just was compelled to make this post when I got to thinking about it...

Well done guys..

Very well done...    :salute:

Agreed. The amount and quality of communication the devs have with us is some of the best I've seen :salute:

I couldn't have put it any better myself Bearcat. I'm really impressed with the fine work from 1CGS on BoS and BoM.

Cheers!

Not a big deal, but I think you have your math backwards.

We got a Developer Diary Update every 1.3 weeks, not 1.3 a week. It's 0.77 a week, which is impressive nonetheless.

For some reason, and being in flight ( for real ) and simulation for decades, this tittle has become my preferred flightsim EVER!

There is really something special about almost everything in IL-2 BoS/BoM, and just as you have put so well in your post, the way the Dev Team has been working since day one is truly Exemplar !

Agreed. Devs have done a good job. Have to give credit when it is deserved.

I have played sims for a long time and have other sims installed atm. But simming time is limited and BoS has been taking that time almost completely for over a year now.

I don`t play crappy games, can`t waste valuable game time. So, BoS must be pretty good.  ;)

I agree with everything Bearcat. (Except Tanks)

I just want IL-2 to cover the USAAF for at least once since it's 15 years of existence. I don't want to replay those 15 years again that'll be the exact same scenario but different engine. Pacific was nice, Clod wasn't so nice, but the USAAF never received love yet.

I wouldn't hold your breath mate...

If we move to the Med at some point (which is my hope - after the Eastern Front is done in 2-3 games' time) the USAAF should have its moment of glory.

The tanks are not an issue for me.. For a long time in IL2 people wanted driveable vehicles.. I don't see it as a problem since it takes nothing from the flight sim potion of the series. As for covering the USAAF... I have to disagree with you .. Granted IL2 did not cover the U.S. completely but you cannot just ignore the stock P-51s, Wildcats, Corsairs , Hellcats, Hawk variants.. P-39 varaints, B-25s, B-24s, P-38s, P-47s , SBDs and A-20s and P-80s.

I wouldn't either.. but I can only hold my breath for about 90 seconds... :P  I expect this sim to expand in a similar fashion to IL2.. perhaps not as broad.. because the sales base is just not there.. but I expect the core American plans to show up.. We already have P-40s.. I expect the P-39s within a year (just a hunch .. no factual information to that point..) and I see no reason why at least some of the other American .. and British aircraft will not make it into this sim.. I would love to see it move to the Pacific eventually.. and I think it has the capabilities.. I don't know if that is in the plans but I do think it can be done... it all depends on how the sim goes and the support it gets.

I do think that making some small adjustments if possible... a F2P version.. possibly changing the online aspect to make it easier to use so that you could just run a non dedicated server as easy as you could from IL2...  would do wonders for the sim because like I have always said.. it it's core it is a robust and visually stunning sim with great physics... physics that are IMO on par or better than anything else out there .. developer supprted or otherwise...  It has some teatures that no other dedicated WWKII sim has ... and it has a lot of room for growth... I think it hgas a bright future and I hope that the team can sustain themselves with it.

100% agree.

Some more food? I've a good feel for 2016.

Desert + Spitfire Mk.Vc and this IL2 will be definitely "consecrated" in the flight sim world.

Totally agree.

Let the negative people be negative and nitpick the game.  There will always be those people, regardless of how incredible the game may be.

The majority of this community seems to have nothing but appreciation for how much work the dev team puts into this sim.  Me included.

Well done for all this impressive work ! I haven't experienced much sims, but this one is so good, so well made, that there are no reasons to go check somewhere else ! :)

Keep the awesome work up !!  :salute:

Have to agree Bearcat, a big thumbs up for the team.

Amazing progress, the dev team just seems to be operating like a well-oiled clockwork. Also the interaction with the community has been exemplary and, frankly, unprecedented.
