SCG_Space_Ghost Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 -snip- Frankly, snobbish and elitist attitudes like this do very little to 'keep simming alive'. -snip- You can call me names (frankly, that's a little snobbish of you) but all I'm doing is speaking the inconvenient truth that none of you want to accept. Oh well... Not my problem.
Tomsk Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 So I absolutely agree with everything Mewt said, I'd really love to draw new players into flight sims and I do think control system is a substantial barrier to entry. That said I also agree with novicebutdeadly that if you're already talking about a $50 up front cost (the non-premium edition works perfectly well) then what's $20 for a cheap joystick. I wonder if the long term plan for BoS/BoM is to move to free to play as is the case for RoF ... not sure how I'd feel about that, it definitely has consequences ... For me I think it's important mouse aim is done well. The big problem is that in WT if mouse aim is allowed it tends to dominate. That's because whilst joysticks give a much more precise means of performing maneuvers, the ability to have a plane that cannot stall and fires with pinpoint accuracy more than compensates. I think both of these things aren't inherent to mouse aim though. Having a plane that can't stall is a big win for new players, but the trade off (for me) has to be that it does this by never pushing the plane too near the edge, i.e. it flies like a novice. Similarly with the aim, it should never be perfectly accurate it should simulate the accuracy of a competent but not great pilot. In short I think mouse aim needs to be a "simpler to get in to but ultimately inferior" option to joystick.
Matt Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 (edited) They should just make a lite version with each premium packs and sell those separately and allow a mix and match of all different packs (BoM premium with BoS standard, BoS premium with BoM premium etc.). The premium planes are relatively well mixed, four different countries, two radial, two water cooled etc. no real uber plane, but also no complete dogs. Edited November 24, 2015 by Matt
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I think we'll see customizable sets or individual AC down the road but not for quite some time.
Stoops417 Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 In response to Mainly, would you like them? Absolutely, unequivocally, completely YES! I hoped but did not dare to dream that those snippets in the old dev diaries would come to see the light of day as a feature anywhere near this quickly. The prospect of having WWII tanks simulated to the same fidelity as BoS planes is extremely exciting. I hope this will bring a lot of players in that previously wouldn't have been interested in IL2 because they aren't interested in flying. On top of that, the prospect for any sort of Combined Arms operations gets me personally excited enough to require sitting down!
Trooper117 Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 They are not to the same fidelity as the planes... Loft has said the tanks are simply to give players a different perspective of the battle thats all. He said the tanks would not develop into a simulator type part of the game.
JG300_Tempest Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 (edited) Hi devs, hi all, I did enjoyed pretty much this update. There's however a couple of 'upseting' things with tanks so far and here is the main one : this smoke following the gunfire into the optics : this do not allow to range the shot properly. On addition, a pilot that made a forced landing can not evacuate his airplane properly, does he ? Parachutes are also targeted by AAA. I personnaly hope work is going to be followed on tanks : IL2 beta is much better than Darkest Hour itself. I surely will enjoy a Jagdpanther in these big maps... NumeroX Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 I could not care less for "Mouse Control" what worries me is the fact that Tanks can now be controlled by players... WTF?!? is this not a "Flight Simulator" anymore? Is the IL2 series becoming a WT/DCS World hybrid?!? Why has this decision been made? If the devs want to create a tank sim by all means do so, but don't ruin IL2!

Freycinet Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 (edited) Mouse control, what can I say....... I really thought the developers were in this for a love of flight simming. The pure, clean, unadulterated joy of simulating the Wonder of Flight and creating content for the fan base. And now I realise that they are.... they are.... in this FOR THE MONEY! How dare they sully themselves with thoughts, impure scrooge-like thoughts of craven money-grabbing... How can they say they love their job and at the same time want payment for it?... Oh, what has the world come to [uncontrollable sobbing]. Edited November 25, 2015 by Freycinet
II/JG17_HerrMurf Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Sell outs! Doesn't anyone make music for the love of music anymore? Wait, this isn't the Nickleback forum? 3

Vade Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Is the Driver of the Panzer III not supposed to be able to open his hatch or am i doing something wrong here? Also, i couldn't find any key binding for opening said hatch - am i hopelessly blind or did anyone notice it missing as well?
1CGS LukeFF Posted November 27, 2015 1CGS Posted November 27, 2015 Is the Driver of the Panzer III not supposed to be able to open his hatch That's correct.

If the devs want to create a tank sim by all means do so, but don't ruin IL2! Tanks should worry you there are fun as hell.Just cannot figure out how to run the tank lol. I have had a terrible work place accident mid October and crushed my right hand. My right hand for my joystick is and will be unusable for a very very long time. So I take everything they offer me if it can help me play just a little. I was and still am confined to the gunner seat there for a while jumping in as gunner to unsuspecting players and waiting for enemy attacks. If you see me online do no not be surprised I become your gunner.
Boomerang Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I tried the Tanks out in Hard Core mode, (Russian side), had a BLAST! It was a lot of fun, especially in hard core mode, where there were no markers showing your location, nor external views, also, (imo), the emersion was fantastic. I discovered, 2 direct hits, while flanking, worked well! Thanks again for the update, wishing all are well, your doing a fantastic job! Regards, Boomerang
Guest deleted@1562 Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Anything that lures fresh blood to the WW2 sim genre is good in my book. Regarding mouse control in multiplayer: if servers can disable mouse control, then no one "suffers". Even if not, the impact will be minimal: if you have a newby at the mouse, he'll be mince meat as sure as if he was using a HOTAS. If it's a pro, you'll have lost or won the fight through tactics.

If the devs want to create a tank sim by all means do so, but don't ruin IL2! Since there are player controlled tanks, I see more motivation to kill the tanks, and the fighters have tank hunters to shoot down. Overall this is a much more realistic MP experience, as the furball of fighter vs fighter has been.
II./JG53Lutzow_z06z33 Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I don't understand why people fly with a mouse,a decent Logitech joystick can be had for $20 and makes the game so much better.

I played normal difficulty tanks yesterday, and it was a extremely fun. I kinda hope they add more
Sokol1 Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 I tried the Tanks out in Hard Core mode, (Russian side), had a BLAST! There's nothing much "hard core" in EXPERT - just no ICON's - that "AWACS/RADAR/GPS" in map always show here tanks are, no matter are in middle of forest... 2

Dutch Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Complex engine management? Fun For All. What a fantastic IL2 server. Anyone can play. Then the questions slowly creep in. Then a forum is joined. Then we meet the experts. Then the player becomes a simmer. Then the hobby is killed.
Sokol1 Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 (edited) Fun For All. Is not fun drive a tank for 15 KM at 20KM/H to be blow up by a Kamikaze Stuka guided be "AWACS/RADAR/GPS", in the middle of forest area. Edited December 1, 2015 by Sokol1 1
GunnyHighway Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I don't understand why people fly with a mouse,a decent Logitech joystick can be had for $20 and makes the game so much better. Because they can play from work without attracting attention. 2
=IRSS=3wu Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 109s overheat to fast now.Im forced to fly with manual radiator to get no trouble.
Megatherion Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 Where is the "F4" - External view with mouse controls (available only at Normal difficulty since external views are disabled on Expert)? Is it only available if mouse control is enabled? (I am using joystick and only have the LCtrl + F4 Combat Camera available-which is a "locked" chase view. Please include a "locked" chase view where we can zoom in and out for a farther away locked chase view.
