salute gents.

I was flying cover over a friendly airfield when I noticed flak going off and following something. After a few minutes I started recording the flight because something was not right. Soon afterwards something hit my plane and then later destroyed her.

I watched the recording with icons on and still there was nothing. You can see the flak following something around.

The players name was KLOT that showed up after I got destroyed. Maybe something wrong with the server or maybe something els?

Hi V,

That's a bug that the devs asked for a special report when encounter. I will leave you the link later when I have the time to look for it but it's on one of the DD if I recall correctly.

Cheers mate

Well if its a hack its the nail in the coffin for multiplayer.

Jacko it's not. It's a bug present in MP since EA that may come back with new dserver versions.

Edit: V, I couldn't find it so I will direct Han to this topic so he can read it.

This was a packet transfer bug briefly present during early MP testing which disappeared and returned earlier this year (very rare). At first glance, this isn't a hack...unless someone has found out how to replicate it consistently.

Invisible aircraft in mp have been identified by me and others on multiple occasions.  Documentation, including the invisible plane logs and tracks, have been posted for the devs.  The invisibility has occurred with people I have been flying with and on comms.  It is a bug and not a hack.  The bug still exists.  It also appears that the plane becomes visible once guns have been fired.

There is another issue, also reported, that appears as "invisible" planes but are not.  These are what I call "dust bunnies".  You see them on the ground in the form of prop wash where an aircraft has been, sometimes on the apron, sometimes the runway.  You can taxi or takeoff through them without effect.  I witnessed the origin of one.  A buddy landed his aircraft and when he spawned out, the dust bunny remained.  I tookoff, flew my mission and when I returned it was still there.

There is one last "invisible" aircraft issue I have witnessed and reported.  I was on comms with two people.  I spawned at the airfield they tookoff from.  They were in combat many squares away from the airfield.  Once I was in, there was the sound of an aircraft next to me but no dust bunny.  While going through my startup the "plane" next to me fired its weapons.  A moment later one of the guys on comms said he fired a burst.  I asked him if he could fire another burst as a test.  He did and the "plane" next to me fired again as well.  Very strange.

So there are issues in mp, the most important being the random invisible aircraft.  It could be anyone that is invisible and they will not know it unless flying with someone to identify it.  I hope they can identify the problem or come up with a work around.  Until such time as the problem can be found, my thought was that since invisible aircraft become visible once they fire their guns, maybe it could be coded that when an aircraft spawns in, that in the background one round is counted as being fired by the plane.  It wouldn't have to show.  I have know idea obviously if something like this is doable or would work.

There is one other graphic glitch on mp I forgot to mention.  Sometimes when an aircraft fires its weapons, even a short burst, to others viewing him he is seen to continue firing for a long time.  This can be a dead giveaway of location to the enemy.

The MP_InvisibleAirplane.log is written over each time you begin a sortie.  A Hide code of 2 I believe is normal.  A Hide code of 0 indicates an invisible  plane was present.  If you know one is present when flying, you must immediately leave the server to preserve the log.  The reason is that should that plane fire his weapons it will not long be invisible and the code will change.  Also, if you start another sortie the info is gone.  The log and a track, if available, should be posted in the bug forum.

Yours is interesting as it is a Ju-87.  First time I have seen evidence of a non-fighter that is invisible.  One thing I am not sure of with your example is if a plane is carrying bombs and makes the drop, will this make him visible in the same way firing guns will.  I have my doubts.

Even yesterday, I could not record it but ive seen several planes just appearing out of no where.
It happened few times in the winter maps, but it became worse after summer/autumn maps came out.

I think I may have run into this issue yesterday on WoL, as 3 of us were flying patrol. I saw a buddy get killed, black smoke and all, but I saw no other plane! I figured he was just too far away, so my wingman and I kept a vigilant eye for the attacker...could see no one...as we proceeded my wingman was killed just the same - right as I was watching him - this time not very far from me...I still saw nobody - I remarked that I could see no one, as did my wingmates. we thought we just didn't look in the right place... so I proceeded to fly around looking everywhere with my eyes peeled and head on a swivel - eyes constanty on my six... when all of a sudden im shot dead...as I died, the 3rd person view I saw a 109 go past my killed plane.

... now I cant prove anything, but tjat is the 1st time I, nor any of my wingmates, was not able to see an attacker after 3 engagements - both when he attacked and afterwards. I became VERY suspicious.

.

I recall seeing gunfire in space about a month ago (just after new maps came online), but hadn't seen it since.

.

sometimes strange things happen on the apron - wreckage sounds, gunfire, engines.

.

reports of seeing landing lights at high alts with no one there.

~S~ Everyone,

My thought, is in wondering if this is an organic "bug", or, if it is indeed evidence of hacking. And, I truly have no emotional attachment, to this very subject.

In 1946, I flew at length, with someone who, in a restricted server, was able to spawn in with any plane in the program, at will, with no side effects, or problems.

So, could it be a case, of a few of our "boffin" friends, not being able to resist bypassing loadouts, skins, or plane sets? (I assure you that it is 100% possible)

If it does come down to someone using "re-handler" software (rare true, but a fact of life) they'd already be at this, able to, before early access, just to try it out.

The problem with building better mousetraps is that you eventually just produce smarter mice. So air-quakers be alert, you might come up against "the UFOs" again.

The time tested and truest way to avoid 99.9% of mod-hacking in sessions, is of course to lock the door, fly with friends, squadron members, and other trusted people.

Now, I realize that this issue has more to do with the wanky Dserver, which mercifully, the Devs are still ironing out for us (Thanks Again!), but still, what I've said, holds air too.

Rifts between, "Imma gunna kill everyone" where any exploit is exploitable, and, "combat simulation is more interesting than general aviation", so let's be gentlemen, are old news.

The best direction to take for most, is to join into, or even form, a new squadron. Besides having a groovy gamer tag, it used to also denote, being "vetted" (trusted), by other people.

Let's hope for the Devs to categorically resolve this glitching for those that just cannot stomach imperfections in their performance. And for the rest of us care bears, "caveat emptor".

Let the Buyer be Aware,

!S -Jupp- :salute:
