Brano Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Oh,nice, update is here.It will be a long day at work waiting for my first T-34 trip around Don banks.I hope it will be possible to cross the bridge at Kalach
Major_Hero Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Awesome! Happy for ya. Australia is only a decade behind the rest af the world now Ah........ but hours ahead. Every....single....day. 1
Finkeren Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Ah........ but hours ahead. Every....single....day. I admit, I have no clever comeback to that...
Brano Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 To-do list for the evening tank trip 1. Cross the bridge at Kalach, take a selfie 2. Continue along railway and blow off moving train, take a selfies 3. Stop at Gumrak and Potomnik to smash LW planes with my tracks, take a selfie 4. Climb up the Mamayev Kurgan, take a selfie 5. Downhill to Stalingradsky Traktorny Zavod, take a selfie 6. Move south along Krasny Oktyabr and Barrikadi,no need for selfie 7. Stop at Pavlov house and grain mill, take a selfie 8. Turn right towards vokzal and take a selfie with kids&crocodile 9. Head south to grain Elevator, take a selfie (might not fit into camera) 2

Fly her again 4. Fly her again 5. Fly her again 6. Fly her again 7. Fly her again 8. Fly her again 9. Fly her again

216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Good flying and shooting Emil, what are your thoughts on it so far? By the way, if you combine all the aircraft in that video you get about 3/4 of the climb rate of a single 109

6./ZG26_Emil Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Good flying and shooting Emil, what are your thoughts on it so far? By the way, if you combine all the aircraft in that video you get about 3/4 of the climb rate of a single 109 I think it will do ok against contemporary fighters like the I-16 and P-40 but not sure about the mig. Roll rate is horrible but it's fairly fast and accelerates well and you can fly it like a fighter but it's best suited to flat slashing attacks rather than 109 style rope a dope attacks as which doesn't surprise me. We'll fly it against different aircraft qithin the squad to see how it matches up but on a WOL type server with BOS aircraft it's not going to do well appart as a ground attack aircraft Pe-2 style.
Finkeren Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 It does ok against the P-40, but against the I-16 it's outclassed as a fighter in all aspects but level speed, armament and posibly high altitude performance. I've flown the I-16 against it a couple of times, and especially the long cockpit presents a very nice target for the Ishkas ShKAS LMGs. Took out the gunner very fast in all instances so far.
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Thanks for the insight, Emil. Finkeren, I was thinking about the Ishak comparison as well. While its top speed is completely inappropriate for 1941-1942 standards, the Ishak's acceleration and maneuverability in all senses make it very easy for it to defeat the -110's attacks and get a good firing position. Considering the I-16 has armament that's in some ways a -110 minus two LMGs, it's a nasty plane to get tangled with. If at any time the -110 tries anything beyond a high-speed pass on the I-16 it risks having its fortunes reversed pretty quickly I think.
6./ZG26_Emil Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 (edited) That does mean that the Bf-110 gets to dictate when (or if) it will engage though. I'd rather be in a faster aircraft than a better turning one and coordinated with other people that rata will be dead meat in my opinion but we will test this week (player versus player) and show the results Edited November 24, 2015 by 6./ZG26_Emil
216th_Lucas_From_Hell Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 It's an interesting match because the -110 can run away on the horizontal while the I-16 has a climb rate about 7m/s higher than the -110. Indeed the Bf-110 dictates if it hits or runs, I'm really curious to see what you'll come up with in the following weeks. Is this the birth of ZG-TV? 1

Even if the Bf 110 pilot manages his hit-n'-run tactics perfectly and manages to get a firing solution against the I-16, he'd have to be lucky or one hell of a shot to down the I-16, if the Soviet pilot is aware of his presence. With a turn rate and roll rate orders of magnitudes better, the I-16 can avoid just about any immediate danger. Edited November 24, 2015 by Finkeren

With a turn rate and roll rate orders of magnitudes better, the I-16 can avoid just about any immediate danger. We'll see about that, if you're good at deflection shooting and are flying as a group then tight turning becomes a roll of the dice, you might get away with it a few times but eventually you're going to get hit. I've flown these kind of engagements many many times in the old IL2 and we usually won or worst case they ran away from us. Until we can actually test the two aircraft side by side this is a little academic as we don't have the game performance figures to look at but I wouldn't rule out the 110 against the rata, nor would I rule out well flow I-16 pilots winning a fight against 110 pilots who get sloppy. Anyway I think two teams could have a lot of fun with this set up and we're going to do this fight in house on our own server to see how it pans out.

The thing is, that the 110 is only really faster than the I-16 in level flight. If the Ishak survives your first attack due to his supperior agility, then he shouldn't keep turning but instead start climbing. At low altitude the I-16s climb rate approaches 20m/s. You might be able to run away from him after that initial attack, but if you stick around to fight, your chances of staying on top of the fight are small. Of course there's still the opportunity to try zoom climbing to catch him and take a shot at him while you prop hang, but at that point you're pretty much spraying and praying (which is ofc always a valid option for the plane carrying the heaviest guns). Anyway I think two teams could have a lot of fun with this set up and we're going to do this fight in house on our own server to see how it pans out. Agreed. Edited November 25, 2015 by Finkeren
