Well it's a very stable platform for ground attacks that's for sure  It's also easy to take off, fly, and land, just like the other 109's. Just not as fast but it should do well against I-16's and P-40's... And it is beautifully modeled, and there are already tons of excellent custom skins out for it!

The under armor doesn't help. Ground fire lights the plane on fire just as fast.

Turn inside a yak with flaps at low speed.... And make it stall :-)

Very joyful!

Feels a very ballanced aircraft, very easy to fly and dogfight with.

Just pay attention to your radiators control - it's on you !

Marvelous dogfighter. Extremely maneuverable (except in roll) and with pretty good power even with engine running in "continuous" mode.

It's slow so you have to fight somewhat different from what you're used to with the other 109s.

Less glamourous as a ground pounder. It's too fragile and too slow to adequately protect it from ground fire, and its armament options are far from impressive. The F4/G2 are far better for ground attack.

About the guns: The MG FFs are quite deadly, for a short while, expect to shoot down 1 maybe 2 enemies with the MG FF and then spend the rest of the fight trying to exhaust the bottomless supply of MG 17 ammo. Once the cannons are done, you're bringing a butter knife to a bazooka fight, but it's still fun outmaneuvering Yaks nonetheless.

Basically it's one of the most fun AC in the sim. E7 vs. I-16 is my new favourite match up.

fixed  ;)

I have to say the MG 17 work quite well. I managed to shoot down 3 P-40 without the use of cannon. You just have to attack form the right angle and get some lucky shots in ;)

That armor is really only meant to protect the plane from small arms fire. Anything larger than that will easily defeat it. But then, the 109, in whatever form was not exactly a great ground attack plane.

It's perfect, but from everything I know it is too slow by about 15 km/h.

I love the way it turns and rolls at medium speeds. I especially love loosing Yak-1s on my six by doing Black-out turns downward spirals.

It's way more beautiful than the later version IMO, which, even if you don't believe it, will benefit its fighting skills by a margin  ;)

In fact, it turns very well, feels nimble and eager to move from its axis' all the time while retaining stable reactions, very balanced, climbs and dives well. Most importantly it feels very "light", which it was.

Not too fast, as it should be, but no slouch either. It's a good compromise.
The armament is not as great as many think IMO: I prefer all the guns in the nose like later version 109s, but at convergence the FF/M can

devastate anything.

I really love the Emil.

I can say I'm not afraid to mix it up with a Yak flying the E-7.

Solid ground attacker.  You aren't going to be running from much so it's good to fly in a wing.

Interesting, I always thought the F2 & F4 were more agile with all their aerodynamic improvements and higher power.

Their maneuverability was improved at high speeds yes. Try getting an Emil to 550km/h and you'll see the difference.

At lower speeds the lighter Emil wins out with its lower wing loading.

Probably my favorite plane so far!

I'm really enjoying flying it around but I think I like it even more because it shows off the evolution of the series VERY well. The Emil is slower and the firepower is less optimized but you can definitely get a feel for the early model - then jump in the G-2 and see just how much deadlier the newer version is but also how some compromises were made to get it there. The later models feel heavier and harder to toss around despite being very agile fighters in their own right. The centreline armament on the F-4 and G-2 make a huge difference.... I'm really curious to see how the F-2 bridges that gap.

I'm looking forward to seeing that kind of evolution with a few famous aircraft series as the 1CGS IL-2 lineup expands.

Hi Guys,

Is it just me or is the E-7 the only 109 that doesn't have the have the heavy torque (pulling/rolling to the left) effect.

It has that too ?  Since you have to use it ( in real mode ) at much lower power settings most of the time, 1,0 or 0,9 ATA for cruising, 1,1 or max 1,2 on combat / attack, unless you desperately need to go 1,4 for just a bit, you will also notice it less than you do in the G2 for instance.

But a good test is the takeoff and the amount of rudder required to counter torque and remaining prop effects. It's just like the F4 or the G2...

I noticed this too.

Been out of the 109 for a while and really fell in love with the Emil.

Then I tried the F and G...jesus. just staying in a straight line was a chore. Just...wobbly, uncontrollably so. I fought the plane more than the enemy!

Good point, but even at less power the F4 and G2 tend to roll to the left. You really have to compensate heavily for it.

Good to hear i'm not the only one. I'm i just imagening this, or did the F4 and G2 changed after the last patch?
