Curiosity: Bomb Mounts and Airspeed

Quick Query:

As we know, pretty much every fighter in the game can be fitted as a Jabo aircraft, often with ~200kg worth of bombs. However, the mounts between Soviet and German aircraft vary - the Soviets favour a framework which is light and not particularly intrusive, though I imagine not particularly aerodynamic, and the Germans favour a shaped mount that appears to be more aerodynamic, yet also heavier.

So, assuming a Soviet aircraft with two FAB-100 bombs, and a German one with four SC50s, so identical payload weights, which would have the greater impact on performance (airspeed, turning ability, etc)? And would that change once the bombs have been dropped?

Hmmmm ....... (ponder, ponder) .... if I were a betting man (I'm not by the way; I'd much rather blow my cash on whores)

Well, everyone needs a hobby.

@Libelnon If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that VVS and LW racks had an almost equal performance impact. As you say, the VVS ones are lighters, but the LW ones are more aerodynamic. But that's just my two cents.

I would say the VVS ones will have the greatest negative impact. Not so much on speed though, but in lift and overall handling, because they would cause more turbulence underneath the wing.

With bombs attached, the 4x SC50 has the biggest speed penalty (~10%), the 1x SC250 or 2x FAB-100 cause about the same speed loss (~5%).

The drag of the mounts is basically identical. they alone cause a speed loss of 2-3 %.
