Mission Editor crashes opening _gen.mission

After patch 1.04

I just tried to open a _gen. file in mission editor and it creates a runtime fault and leaves the editor hanging. I can't delete it from the task manager either. If I open another instance of the editor I can edit other missions. If I try again to open the _gen file then it locks again.

Is this only my rig or can others confirm this happens

I believe it's working for me, but I'll check again to be sure tonight.

~S~ Jacko,

I followed this : http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/17295-how-convert-quick-mission-single-player-mission/?p=272301

And although slow to do so (with 16GB RAM on Windows 7 64Bit OS) it did open the file I copied, renamed, and installed.

Also, this little tidbit is worth knowing about as it could help when troubleshooting if something doesn't work or crashes.

I will have to try this out again as my first attempt did not work. I dowloaded sturmoviks over stalingrad and also found I can't open any single player mission in ME. Although i can fly the mission in the game. Seems to me something is broken in the ME.

Jacko,

I have the same ME error (CTD) with the first mission of sturmoviks over stalingrad (do not tried the others). But only if I double click on the .mission file to open it.

If I open the editor, then open/load the file from it then it works. Sure, it takes its time, but opens.

Maybe You have a different bug, but it's worth a try. Hope it's help.

Double-clicking on a mission file in windows explorer has never worked for me. The editor starts, opens the file and crashes.

Cheers Frazer,

For me the problem is when I open the single player mission from the ME. I have never tried to double click on the mission from ME. I also don't get the CTD more that the application gets greyed out and can't be used and can't be terminated by the task manager.

I think I'm out of advice then

The editor is somewhat heavy on the PC, I have 16GB ram and the sturmovik first mission take nearly two minutes to open, I presume your hangs indefinitely?

The runtime thing should be related to some microsoft libraries. Have You updated/modified something on your PC?

Maybe try to reinstall the libraries, should be the DirectX or Runtime DLL ones. The ones needed by BOS should be in the data/updater/3rd_party directory.

Or wait for someone that knows better than Me.

The error message is  titled Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library  X Runtime Error

So it's related to the Visual C++ Redistributable Packages. There is an old version of this in BoS, is in IL-2 Sturmovik Battle of Stalingrad/data/updater/3rd_party/vcredist folder.

Maybe is needed for the editor and some program has overvrote it with a newer one. Or the 1.04 patch messed up something, or...

Unfortunately with Windows DLL finding the culprit is quite hellish. I usually would download the latest library package from Microsoft's site and install it... BUT.

There are too many versions (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2977003), and still We don't know what caused the problem at first. You could try to reinstall the old BoS version, should be safe. If You are not in a hurry, try to contact the support. Giv'em as much info as possible, including screenshot of error message.

I'm sorry to cannot help more, troubleshooting this is quite difficult even when in front of the PC. Being on the other side of the forum didn't help

S! Jupp- I have used this in the past and it worked well to clear bugs but not this one.

I now find that any mission with a summer map cannot open. If I open a mission with the winter map of stalingrad it loads. I even edited a summer mission via a text editor and replaced all the summer references for winter. Saved and it opened up in ME. I then tried to change the textures back to summer in ME and could not find the folder with the files for summer, only the winter. So I am now thinking where have they gone and these missing files must be the problem.

Ok I have found the problem. I have 2 copies of the game one i use as dserver and somehow i forgot to update it. I became suspicious when i could not find the summer textures in the graphics folder.

So school boy error from me sorry to take up your time :)
