VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 LaGG-3 How to fix wheel covers that don't show. Using GIMP. La5 and Yak1 are fine. Just don't get it.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 I re-downloaded the public template and, without making any changes, created the dds file. Still no wheel covers.
TG-55Panthercules Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Weird - I just checked my personal LaGG-3 skin (created with PhotoShop) and the wheel covers aren't showing up on it either. Funny I didn't notice that before. I'll have to check into it when I get back from work later tonight and see if I can figure out anything about why that's happening.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Check your alpha channel, I believe they forgot to change the wheelcover alpha colour back in the Lagg-3 template. Pierre64 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Identify the different parts of the wheelcover on your skin (inside and outside) and "paint" them in dark or medium grey on the Alpha layer (instead 100% black as they are).
TG-55Panthercules Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Yep - for some reason the template alpha channel has these areas black, which makes them invisible. So, just a minor glitch with the template - you can fix it by lightening up these areas to match the other gray areas of the alpha channel.
VBF-12_Stick-95 Posted November 4, 2015 Author Posted November 4, 2015 (edited) Thanks guys, at least I know what the issue is. And thanks Stuka, that is a great step by step instruction for mixing matte and shiny surfaces on one aircraft in GIMP. Unfortunately for me, it is over my head in order to decipher how to find and fix the alpha on one part in one layer. Don't know if I will ever "get" Alpha channel. Edited November 4, 2015 by MrStick
Pierre64 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 @ MrStick try this one : (converted in .bmp 256 greys)
Jason_Williams Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I swear I fixed this in the template and re-uploaded no? Someone send me the fixed template alpha and I'll re-upload. I suck at doing alphas too. Jason
Pierre64 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Links to the two alpha layers for LaGG-3 s29 : with wheelcovers : http://toutbox.fr/alfaro1/alpha_LaGG3_wheelcovers_on,51014162.bmp without wheelcover (historically accurate for winter) : http://toutbox.fr/alfaro1/alpha_LaGG3_wheelcovers_off,51014145.bmp
Jason_Williams Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I've updated the Lagg-3 template to include two Alphas. Alpha 1 = No Wheel Covers and Alpha 2 = With wheel covers. Just delete the one you don't want to use when saving the skin file. Jason
