  1. 1. What exactly do you find so Special / Magic about this flightsim?

    • The Flight Dynamics
      65
    • The Damage model
      27
    • The Scenery and it's various static and dynamic elements
      30
    • The Weather / Light rendering
      35
    • The Single PLayer Campaign or Missions
      10
    • The Multiplayer experience
      16
    • The fact that although you can't interact with various aircraft systems, using your mouse, most are operated through keybord or controller shortcuts, and other have automated but realistic operation taht we can observe

    • None of the above, but yes it IS Special!

Here's a small poll for the reasons some of you find to consider IL-2 BoS such a Special flightsim...

I don't think it's special at all.

It's a good balance between simulation/fun that I enjoy playing but each flight sim serves its own purpose and it is hard to call any one flight sim "more special" or better.

I miss one: The amount of content and pace at which it is delivered.

Oops, too late for me to edit the Poll :-(

real simulated flight physics, multicore simulation.

dcs lacks both.

The flight dynamics are absolutely unparalleled. You really feel that engine while flying, that is something even DCS lacks.

Voted flight and light - makes flying around the maps in the sim enjoyable even though the SP content - ahem - needs work.

I forgot to include perspective - in no other sim, civil or combat, do I experience such a realistic sense of perspective when flying around just for leisure or looking for targets, or dogfighting!  This is something I have found only in Rise of Flight too, although I do not play it that often ...

For me it's the flight dynamics.

I also like how this sim keeps the middle between a study sim and a survey sim.

All of the above.. I think that overall IL2 is a nice package.. and as time progresses it becomes more and more worthy pf the name...

Combat flight game..... yes

Combat flight simulator...... no, to many tech tips and help text.

But still pretty damn good for all of the above reasons!

Flight dynamics ( and actually overall physics modeling ), that weather "painted" as I can't have in any other sim, including my FSX with the best weather add-ons ( just would like to have some more control over the temperetaure in the QM menus ), and the fact that while it can sometimes be put on a different league from the "study sim" one, but in fact allows for interaction of most of the important controls and systems, or operates other ( like fuel systems ) in a way that we can check visually and see it's being operated as it should.... are also some of the main features in this flight simulation game ( they're all games after all ...)

But, I give it also an high grade in terms of damage modeling, not only inflicted by guns, but from overstressing the airframe !

I just couldn't get into BOS when all there was to look at was frozen.  But now that Summer and Fall have arrived plus a rebuilt game rig, I really like this sim.  Whats always been missing from DCS with WWII planes is a historic campaign.   Though I enjoy the FM and realism of the P-51 in DCS, I have to admit as an eye-candy junky, that BOS plane models and vibrant landscapes are awesome.  I've started a campaign and I'm really enjoying the offline experience.   The loud bangs and smoke from shooting a plane mid air startled me (in a good way).  Some will say the pit is not clickable but I don't miss it.  I like the info windows with airspeed, engine info and mini map.   These I think are necessary if you don't read german or russian or if you are not familiar with the Stalingrad area.  I also appreciate the simplicity of setting up my HOTAS once for all planes (with a few exceptions) as opposed to having to setup everything for each plane in DCS.  Someday DCS will release WWII maps and a campaign.  Meanwhile I'll be working my way through the variety of historic missions in BOS and eventually BOM.
