Very impressed with the new patch

Hi,

You guys may remember me from about a year ago... or not. I fired up BoS/BoM this evening after more than 8 months of letting it gather dust. Life got real busy real quick, and I found myself with hardly enough time to fly for a day or two a week.

I started the summer/fall campaign and flew around a bit, exploring Stalingrad in my trusty Yak-1. I flew around a bit, engaged two eager 109s and shot them down over the Volga (I guess they shouldn't have gone for these pesky Ratas) and landed back at a new airfield. Everything seemed bright, alive and kicking. It really felt as if I was there, in the middle of the biggest battle in history. During a couple of hours, I flew the Yak, P-40, La-5, the I-16 and my good old LaGG-3 against hordes of Emils, Friedrichs and Focke Wulfs in various scenarios. The flight model felt different... most of what I remembered felt different to be completely honest. The aircraft felt heavier, they didn't have insane roll rates as before and if I didn't treat my aircraft right it would definitely try to send me spinning to my death (as the P-40 did a couple of times before I finally realized I had to reduce the fuel load, oops). I haven't tried Pat Wilson's campaign generator yet, but I feel like it'll soon come.

So far, I must admit that I am quite impressed with what BoS/BoM is shaping up to become. Well-done, 777.

Hi CHuck

I got on last night just after the patch was released. I have on the other hand been flying since I bought my licence in early access last year on pretty much a daily basis. This game is the real deal! From the frosty pre-dawn takeoffs right down to cruising along a shimmering river in summer, the scenery and fms are spectacular! With the 110 on the way I can barely contain myself. The anti runway jocks are littering the airfield with their tails in the air after hastily dashing off through the open fields ........ aaaaaahhhhhh .....bliss.

Well done 1C!

btw.... I love the E7!

Sooo - Mr Owl - another guide for the BoM plane set, maybe later, to companion your BoS guide?  'Cause basically your stuff incredibly rocks...

Welcome back Chuck. Good to see you.

The reason the FM feels "different" to you may be because the cold weather "boost" is now gone (in summer at least) and people seem to agree that the Yak has taken the worst hit from this.

They added damping forces to control column - aka compression. I have FF joy and i felt definitely this change - especially in 109. Previous you could make some negative g stalls which was not good but i liked the way plane responded to joy movement better.

Has this seriously been fixed? I might just have to try the game again. I haven't flown a sim in nearly a year.

Chuck must really feel divided - how much I feel his pain.....

Today I was posting at AVSIM about my two preferred flight sims EVER still being 32 bit, and one of them, which has the most Astounding graphics and visual effects actually "still" dx9 - they're FSX:SE and IL2 BoS.

Chuck, I believe, is also on both platforms, but I believe he feels like me in as far as one and the other pull us towards a simming session... It's like having two great gilrls to spend a couple of hours, but with no threesome chance... Well, I've been easily being pulled by the BoS one... She has that spice.....

Chuck's a grown man. I hardly think he's getting his knickers in a twist over which sim is 'better'. He has an approach to flight sims that propably lends itself more towards a real 'study sim', so naturally BoS/BoM can't completely accomodate him, and propably never will.

Still, it's good to know that he's around. His input is always great and he produces some real quality stuff for several sims.

Time for tinfoil hat conspiracy theories :)

I'd rather be flying real aircraft to tell you the truth... thankfully, flight sims are a less expensive option than getting a PPL. I fly everything, so I don't really care which sim is "better" to tell you the truth. They're meant to be different experiences. I take them as such.

Chuck must really feel divided - how much I feel his pain.....

Not really... I like to fly all sims (FSX, P3D, X-Plane, Falcon 4 BMS, DCS, BoS/BoM, Il-2 1946, CloD), but I just don't have enough time to fly everything at once. Every sim has at least one brilliant module that I really like, and parts that I wished were improved. It's impossible to have the perfect sim since the community is just so small, specialized and divided. No single pilot wants the exact same thing. So, the only choice I have in order to preserve a healthy relationship with flight sims is to take each sim as it is rather than how I want it to be.

So many planes... so little time. :(

After all this positiveness towards the new patch I might have to update and fire it up over the weekend.  ;)

That's the way to live with more than one sim, I know Chuck,

but to be very true, no other sim I presently use ( FSX:SE, DCS World ) comes as close to the sensation of being there like IL-2 does, in as far as vlying powerful ww2 machines is concerned...
