andyw248 Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 The FW 190 has a unique tailwheel locking system: pulling the stick back locks the wheel when it is centered; pushing the stick forward releases it. This means that in order to lock the tailwheel after turning the pilot has to do two things: pull the stick back, and then apply a little opposite brake so that the tailwheel swings back to the center where it snaps into the lock. This system makes the FW 190 really easy to control on the ground, but it requires the pilot to use multiple controls (stick, rudder, brakes, and throttle) simultaneously. I've recorded a little annotated video in slow motion to illustrate this technique: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr0UvdVEoAM
indiaciki Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 (edited) same as the P-51 (DCS) Edited October 26, 2015 by indiaciki
9./JG27golani79 Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 (edited) same as the P-51 (DCS) Not exactly the same. In the P-51 when the stick is in neutral or pulled back the tail wheel is locked but still steerable up to 6° to the left and right with rudder inputs. Push the stick forward and the tail wheel is unlocked for free swiveling. In the 190 the tail wheel is either free swiveling or locked in a center position if you pull the stick back.
