Weegie Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I haven't flown the P40 or I-16 yet, but it looks like the P-40 flaps are 2 position (but feel free to correct me). However I was wondering what are the flap settings for Takeoff and Landing for the Macchi and the IL-16. Does anybody know or is it just suck it and see and then find a setting they are happy with. Be pleased to get any info I can
Finkeren Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) Flaps on the P-40 function much the same as the LaGG and La-5, though I think they're electrically driven. I use 30% for take off with bombs and 80% for landing (like with the Pe-2 100% seems just a tad too much) I never use flaps in any other situation, the plane is slow enough as it is. The I-16 have manual flaps like the Bf 109, except it seems they're even slower, which prevents their use in combat situations. I seldom use any flaps at all during take off, as the Ishka already has a very low stall speed, plenty of power and small wingloading. I might throw in 10% if taking off with bombs, cannon and a full fuel load. For landing I use 100%. Remember to start lowering gear and flaps well in advance so you don't have to break off your approach, because you aren't finished by the time you reach the runway As for the Macchi I haven't flown it enough to weigh in. Every time I jump in that cockpit, I feel like I'd have better field of vision if I was driving a T-34. Edited October 20, 2015 by Finkeren
Weegie Posted October 20, 2015 Author Posted October 20, 2015 LOL Thank you Finkeren, laughing at the Macchi comment, beautiful plane, but good grief is it quirky. The ergonomics are errr different, seems to me they just threw the instruments at the firewall. Its giving me fits right now and I now need to re-read the engine settings posted, 2 minutes off the runway the prop stops and I'm on the way back down
Alkyan Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I use P40 flaps in mp combat as its one of its only assets : they deploy and retract really quickly.
