Mungee Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I'd be interested to hear any constructive comments re my technique - especially my landing technique! I'm finding it extremely hard not to bounce the P-40 on landing!! Prior to this, I'd had difficulty landing the LaGG-3, but after much, much, practice I got that to an acceptable level. 1
Reflected Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 You still had plenty of speed when your main wheels touched down with quite a descent speed. When it happened your tail snapped down, instantaneously increasing the AoA of the wings and with it, lift. That’s what made you bounce. Keep the plane off the ground until you can stall to the ground at a 3 point attitude.
TP_Jacko Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 You could reduce the landing speed and hold off a bit longer to touch down at 100 mph. Watch the descent rate. Having said that I would be happy with that landing no broken u/c or collapse after you rolled off the runway. Fuel her up reload the guns ad take off again
coconut Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 I've found that trimming full up helps landing at a lower speed. Did you try that?
Mungee Posted October 21, 2015 Author Posted October 21, 2015 Thanks for the advice/tips, chaps. Have a look at these two landings - much, much, better! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlO1tYgZCGs
FTC_KenP Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 I know I'm late to the party and I saw your most recent landing videos and you've come a long way. This is just my personal preference but I prefer to come in shallower and straighter. Also, its hard to tell since I can't see from your cockpit, but in my experience I've found that if you can see where your going when landing you should pull up a little bit more, that way you can land slower which will reduce the amount of bouncing you will do. Smart move to go to 50% flaps with the P-40 though since it flys about as well as a cow does at low speeds.
