1SMVPoppy64 Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Dear R&D Team, a key for a success is a simulator where a lot of simmers can join to fly big missions then upload the event log file (where all the events has stored) to a web sites to have the stats of the missions/tournaments. There are a lot of online stats databases for IL2 Sturmovik: see as example: http://www.1smv-wings.it/badc/ . So, please, a clear and complete event log file is a real requirement for a good product, not just to fly dogfight missions and fire some bullets, but to create a community of simmers! Thank you. 5
4Shades Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 Hi everyone, I agree with Poppy64, a clear, comprehensive and easily parseable logfile is really important for gaining maximum satisfaction from the game. I would add that a clear parseable input file (e.g. mission file) is also highly attractive, since it enables meta-gaming and development of a multitude of third-party client-side scripting tools to magnify the in-game experience. The creators of IL-2 Sturmovik had the foresight to establish simple formats for both input and log files, and these simple features have really stimulated the IL-2 community over the last 10 years. Many other games lack this feature, which ultimately limits possibilities for the user. I am not talking about mods here, I am talking about add-ons. As with IL-2 and CLoD in the past, I am happy to discuss more if the BOS developers wish to consider possibilities around a strategic campaigning engine or add-on for their planned sim. Cheers, 4Shades SEOW Developer http://seowhq.net/seowforum 3

150GCT_Veltro Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 (edited) FEOW Dynamic Campaign for Rise of Flight http://www.rofitalia.com/ http://www.rofitalia.com/feow_piave/FEOW%20Piave%201918.html The statistic page created by Vaal & c. http://www.rofitalia.com/feow_piave/statistic.html What's is needed now is the land-naval operations statistic page. Take care that RoF provides you many triggers, so a lot of the dynamism is in real time. We'll have, i hope, what has not been possible in IL2 in these years, the rejoin option in the ongoing games. Actually, in FEOW we don't need a mission generator. We create the missions ourself in the real time during the missions development. Edited December 17, 2012 by Veltro
ECV56_Guevara Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 this!!! IMHO the long life of il-2 1946 is/was possible because these kind of online community made campaign generators. I 2
II/JG54_Emil Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 A detailed log file is vital for any dynamic campaign. The Scorched Earth Online War community would dearly appreciate a detailed log file. Thank you. 1
I/JG27_Zimmi Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) I support the idea of having a clear structured logfile which allows subsequent mission evaluation. The number of onlinewars and mission generators that we have seen the last couple of years in IL-2 should be reason enough to substantiate this request. My personal relation is the, admittetly rather amateurish, programming of a php based mission generator and report system for our squadron campaign. I'm neither a programmer myself, nord did I ever attend a programming course. But during my studies and the work on our generator system I learn how important well-structured and throughtoutly consteint dataloggin for further processing is. I took over several ideas from other wars (including VOW and ADW) to implement features als reconnaisance missions or the rescue of emergency landed or bailed comrades beyond the frontline. Perhaps it would be even possible to implement such features in the missionsystem itsself, so it does not has to be processed afterwards falling back on alternative methods, as for example smoke taps to simulate recon-photographs. A certain trigger that simulates photos by logging the position as well as the height of theplane (perhaps also the local weather condition) would be a conceivable feature. An additional feature of our campaign is the distinction between pilot carreers, depending on the plane and/or assigned squadron. Missions including f.e. Ju-88 will be counted as bomber-carrer where as IL-2 or Hs-129 as Schlachtflieger. Bombers, which belong to a certain squadron (Fernaufkl??? Edited June 19, 2013 by I/JG27_Zimmi
=69.GIAP=STENKA69GIAP Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 As BOS is based on the ROF engine, you can be pretty sure that it will have comprehensive parsable stats. A ROF mission actualy generates 4 complex stats files. We have aready developped an open source parser to analyse mission results. To adapt this to a new map will take about a day to load it with a new location database with which to interpret XY grid references. To adapt this to BOS will mean loading a new database of object names. The next step needed is to compile mission results into a campaign database or spreadsheet. 4Shades, 69.GIAP are still flying at least one SEOW campaign each week so we know what you can do. If you want to discuss stats analysis I can put you in touch with Tushka who is a beta tester and had help from the development team when he was building the parser. 4Shades Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 As BOS is based on the ROF engine, you can be pretty sure that it will have comprehensive parsable stats. Maybe, but let's hope so! Cheers, 4Shades
=FI=Armitage Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 The availability of logs is very important to allow Squads to track members progress, flight record and also for creating/playing on line wars. It would be nice if there was a document detailing the log structure and format. It would also be nice if the log files for Coops. Dog fights etc recorded the same information i.e IL2 Coop logs record bullets fired/hit % etc while dog fight logs do not. It would also be nice if the events were written consistently to the log. While log values such as the value for cloud type, weather can be manually determined from creating missions with the different parameters it would be nice if these were also available. Has any thought been given to the format in which the logs are to be stored i.e. csv, xml etc
-OFF-drpe Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 (edited) I ve spent some time studying ROFs logfile and found some things that couse problems with easy parsing data from it.#1. I don't know why and what for ID of objects/players may occur in one mission two or more times(doubled IDs). It makes hard to find objects/players by unique ID.#2. Some times when object spawned with ATYPE12 method after its death spawns again in "invisible mode" in the same place where it was removed? i.e. I'm alone on test server flying se5a, and enemy AAA is firing at some thing that is not in the game for player's eyes. In log file I find after my previous death(on SE5a) spawn object ATYPE12 with new ID and AAA is firing at it. Bug that can cause problems with parsing data.#3. ATYPE2 line contains info about ammo type that caused the damage. When bomb hits near the target and causes critical damages to i.e. truck in ATYPE2 line appears "ammo:explosion". When plane is damaged critically and explodes its fuel tank in ATYPE2 line appears the same ammo:explosion. It makes hard to count accuracy for the bombers It would be easier to call one "bombexpl" other "tankexpl". More fun it brings when bomb hits target directly and in log file appears two ATYPE2 lines with ammo:bomb and ammo:explode... that means player hits the target twice with one bomb . And when you bypass the line with 'explode' just my philosophy .#4. What for is ATYPE15 line ??? empty server with no action prints logfile...with ATYPE15 lines. Is there a way to start dedicated server from command line arguments in ROF... will it be possible to start dedicated server from command line in BOS? It would be handy for setting up servers with mission generator. Now you must edit sds.filewith mission file name queue. After all I think there is a lot of info that could be exctracted from logfile today(vide Vaal's parser and stats). I find it hard to count bombs accuracy and had some troubles with doubled IDs(solved by the way). And "invisible objects".... bug I don't know it has been resolved yet. Edited October 10, 2013 by -OFF-drpe
=FI=Armitage Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 It would also be nice if the log file record the height at which the event occurred. Would it also be possible to have a telemetery log file which recorded the position of all the planes maybe 1 every second with an event id linking to the regular log file ( death, shot down, crashed etc) If you will be supporting partial kills then please record them in the logs a bit more intelligently than the attempts in IL2.
