Corto Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 German light armored halftrack SdKfz 250 Ausf “Neu” was recovered from Pilica river near Górki village (Poland) by The Museum of Military Technology in Chrcynno. The late war version (“Neu” = new) was used in a variety of roles, including an armored scout vehicle, personnel carrier, prime mover for towed anti-tank guns, small howitzers, etc. Its in an amazing condition the front wheels rotate, tracks still on and also quite a bit of the original paint scheme visible. On that area only possible candidates of ownership that vehicle are 19 Pz.Div. and 25 Pz.Div. Reminds of red shields painted on the rear and front makes 25 Pz.Div. most likely candidate. After long period of preparation, hundreds of hours spent writing all the required documents, they have finally executed their plan in October 2015. They would like to present the extracted object in the next year on a display of their Museum. They invite you to look at the photos of their discovery Link: http://ww2live.com/en/content/world-war-2-stunning-images-sdkfz-250-neu-pulled-river-poland 2
Finkeren Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Awesome! It always amazes me to se, just how small those vehicles were, and to think they usually seated 6-8 persons.
oneeyeddog Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I agree with Finkeren as I too would imagine this as a much bigger vehicle. Incredible how the rubber tires have held up for so long and it even looks like the rubber cleats on the treads are still there. Thanks, Corto, for posting.
6./ZG26_Custard Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 It always amazes me to se, just how small those vehicles were, and to think they usually seated 6-8 persons. Are you referring to the Sd.Kfz 251?
Finkeren Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 Are you referring to the Sd.Kfz 251? No the 251 was a good deal bigger and seated I think 12 people including driver and gunner.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 The infantry men were only to have armour protection while sitting. When standing up they could easily fire from the vehicle using the armour as cover. Still the SdKfz.251 was more versatile and the standard transport vehicle of the Panzergrenadiere while 250s were slowly withdrawn for amunition carrying and command vehicle tasks. Nice find anyways, hope they can restore it adequitly.
Gump Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 wow. in poland no less. that's gotta evoke some emotions for some of the locals.
79_vRAF_Friendly_flyer Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Nice find! Thanks for the heads up!
