Blitzen Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Due to a severe PC corruption I may have to do a complete PC retore.Of course this terrifies me.I think I can get most functions reinstalled but I worry about the modded fligh sims ( BoS ,CloD,( both Steam) RoF (on line) and that old favorite Il-2 ( modded up like crazy.) All of these sims now have added skins & missions and CloD is modded in several forms of ATAG mods. Obviously I am afraid all of the folders with these sims will disappear along with all the mods they contain. Can someone give me good advice dealing with this problem? I guess this includes FFB joystick & Track IR5 as well...
kissklas Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 You should make a copy of all install folders for the programs/games you have (in program files). Don't forget to also check your documents (maybe even the hidded folder "AppData" in your user folder) for configuration files for each program. Put them on an external drive, and once you have reinstalled them after formatting, paste them back in. Just a warning though. The key mapping on joysticks in game might have to be redone if you have several inputs. (Joy1 might be Joy2 or 3 after a format, depending on which is registered first when plugged in.) Anyone else got any tips? Did I forget something? Best, Klas
No601_Swallow Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 (edited) Because the updating is more or less automated with BoS, it's pretty straightforward (I'd add backing up your ....bos/data/missions and ...bos/data/Multiplayer folders to Kisslkass's advice - if you've got missions and campaigns, etc stored). CloD however, is another matter. Obviously the basic game can be reinstalled from Steam, but the fine burgers of the TF forum at the ATAG website (http://theairtacticalassaultgroup.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=91) will be able to advise about which settings folders to save for CloD and how to repatch for TF 4.x. [Once I knew those folders like they were lasered into my memory. Funny how fast you forget...] Edit: typo/pun intended, by the way! ] Edited October 9, 2015 by No601_Swallow
Sokol1 Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 The key mapping on joysticks in game might have to be redone if you have several inputs. (Joy1 might be Joy2 or 3 after a format, depending on which is registered first when plugged in.) Joystick config is store in \Data\input\ If the new install change the stick's order (happen to me with Win10) no remap is need - if consider this difficult to do. Determine what controller is now "joy1", open the current.map and current.actions files with Notepad++ and use the replace function "joyx" replace "joyy".
No601_Swallow Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Will I need to reinstall Steam? For Clod, yep. For BoS, it depends on where you bought it from, I think. If you bought it through Steam, then yes, but if you bought it from this website, then probably not. (For what it's worth, I've never had a problem with Steam - apart from the 'overlay' affecting CloD once, many moons ago.)
Sokol1 Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Since STEAM is DRM you need STEAM installed and running to open games with this "DRM", but you are not limited to open the game only inside STEAM GUI, making a shortcut for the .exe.
