Finkeren Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4084744/ Anyone seen it? Is it any good? Pavichenko is quite an interesting character, so it could have potential. Edited October 7, 2015 by Finkeren
Mastermariner Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 It is hard to use the word "good" about such a terrible story. Loosely based on http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/eleanor-roosevelt-and-the-soviet-sniper-23585278/?no-ist But yes its more than worth watching. Master 1
Finkeren Posted October 8, 2015 Author Posted October 8, 2015 Good to know. Also, I definately think you can use the word 'good' Many of the best stories ever told have been terrible tragedies. One of my all time favourite films, Guillermo Del Toros 'El Laberinto Del Fauno' is a horrendous story, but a fabulous movie. 2
C-Bag Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Thanks for the headsup, I'll keep an eye out for it. In searching for this I found one that looks really interesting, The Russian Woodpecker. That has won all kinds of awards and I remember reading about it back in the day. But nothing specific. I only wish there was a free exchange of translated Russian books and movies here in fortress US. Especially audio books. It's not that I don't know how to read, it's that I work so hard the only time I have to read is before bed. And most times I only last a page or two if I'm lucky. But I listen to audio books all the time while I'm working, welding, machining etc. 1
ACG_pezman Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Audio books are great, I listen to them while I work too. A good series that I watched on Netflix was called "Generation War." It's the German "Band of Brothers" and gives an insight as to how the war was perceived by them. Makes you think.
C-Bag Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Thanks for the tip, I put it on my Netflix list. I don't know how I missed that one. As far as audio books, I've listened to so many good ones, but some of the stand outs are Panzer Commander: The Memoirs of Colonel Hans von Luck, Wrong Stuff, Above and Beyond the Call, 81 Days Below Zero, Fighter Pilot The Robin Olds Story, The Arsenal of Democracy, just to name a few. I would like to find an audio book on the Battle of Kursk. Seems as though there's not a good one. Either they are too much an overview or too dry/historical. Don't get me wrong, I read these books for th history but when it's all dry troop movement without any human content it gets tedious. The Von Luck story is amazing because he was in almost every major battle, and was in the suburbs of Moscow during BOM.
