Finkeren Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 They could make the ultimate tank focused tactical simulator with that engine. Too bad they won't.
coconut Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 (edited) They could make the ultimate tank focused tactical simulator with that engine. Too bad they won't. War Thunder could be such a great game, they have excellent technology across the board. Game design, on the other hand, has produced some of the weirdest decisions I've seen. That water looks amazing but the first part just looked like an image with higher contrast. But even just that would help a lot with the spotting issues that plague the game. That's one thing that worries me a bit with the summer/autumn maps in BOS, I hope low-flying aircrafts won't blend into invisibility over forests, as in WT. I'm hopeful because planes in BOS seem to be rendered in a more crisp way than in WT, especially at a distance. In WT, fog contributes to hiding planes, and it always seemed to me the effect was a bit exaggerated. The video above seems to indicate contrast is getting better. Edited October 3, 2015 by coconut

We'll have to see in about a months time. No doubt spotting against the ground will become harder on the new maps (as it should) but by how much? If RoF is anything to go by we'll be fine, but there's really no way to tell until we have the maps in hand. I'd like to make the prediction, that it's not gonna be forests that'll make low flying planes near invisible, but rather the water.
steppenwolf Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 Arcade games are slowly becoming sims. Was that 'land deformation' with water filling in @1:43? If so, that's nice. Hope they redo the particle effects and DM.
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 They seem to be fixing one of the biggest issues in Sim battles - the visibility at various ranges http://warthunder.com/en/devblog/current/836
kestrel79 Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Really excited about the visibility. I only play sim battles so this is important to be able to see a little better. Curious if this new engine will affect performance? One of the best things about Warthunder was for me it ran very smooth on 3 screens.
[CPT]milopugdog Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Looks very nice. It's too bad I can't play a single match of that game
Rothko Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 it's interesting to see certain games like Witcher 3 and War Thunder really pushing for Nvidia Gameworks... Too bad I run on Radeon

That was also the case with Jasons RoF as you could read at Simhq forum history.

6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 it's got all the ingredients and simulated elements already. so much potential. but of course, they only go where the easy money is. Corrected that. It's far more profiteable to make some prototype premium vehicles and other stupid premium content like "wagers" than going back and reworcking their faulty game mechanics (cough DM cough) and implementing tank interiours in a prope way. There definetly is a place for a realistic tank sim in the market as WT has shown. Most people playing RB were upset about too many helpers and demanded more realism by for example removing enemy markers and aim helpers.
=362nd_FS=Hiromachi Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Apparently that engine is causing massive problems, plenty of artifacts and graphical bugs along with lower frame rate despite claims. I havent tested myself, but basing on comments in general and polish subform comments were rather negative when game was looking far from right. Other issue is that they decided to turn their tanks in all 3 modes into something closer to WoT : http://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/272602-is-gaijin-moving-away-from-historical-accuracy-to-favour-the-more-twitch-shooter-type-players/ Now there are ranges at which you can see certain tanks and ranges at which you cant see. Where did that realism vanish ?
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 And I though tanks were difficult enought to enjoy already...well learned sth new! Just had a brief look on the dev myself and noticed some plane skins look terrible in the new engine due to colour desortions and overdone and clunky reflections. It will sure not be appreciated by skinners.
6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) No idea what they changed in the new "Dagor 4.0" engine but the game looks absolutely terrible now. Some screens from the 10 min I managed to get on dev (settings all maxed): Especially interiours looks utterly bad and overcontrasted Some screens of the Ju-87 with my custom made cockpit textures show the true horror of "Dagor 4.0": And as Hiromachi concluded performance did suffer despite previous claims from Gaijin. Furthermore shadows and objects are randomly popping in and out, the terrain looks washed out (which highly decreases air to ground visibility) and many planes (especially older models) look more glossy than a factory fresh Cessna... It can't be solved with custom filter settings either since it's a core maalufunction of the engine itself. Edited October 24, 2015 by Stab/JG26_5tuka

6./ZG26_5tuka Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 The thing is graphic settings in WT are not really straight and very confusiong. There's no real gamme slider, bu only "Gamma Correction", which brightens the picture only. I had turned it on to a very low amount. There ae also custom filter settings with no decleration but simple letters, which I used to minimise the effect. At Default filter options and gamme it did look slightly worse. Another thing with the new engine is a build in grain filter that makes everything look oversharpen (custom sharpen filter were all at min!). It really looked horrible colour as well as contrast wise but trying to read those grainy and ye demolishing instruments really gave it the rest. Not to mention the noticeable performance drop you see in the screenshot: 60FPS on the outside, 42FPS inside. Both on the same map, no AI, all settings maxed. That's a terrible drop for simulator players.

71st_AH_Hooves Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Thats a massive update! Im all about tanks, Not so much a WT flight fan.
kestrel79 Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 How's the new engine? Better performance? Worse? I need to give it a go soon.
Silverback Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Please give us tanks as a paid add on. You can start with PZ4H and T-38 STZ, WT gets worse with every patch.
Trooper117 Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 A lot of people were expecting the British tank tree I think... instead they got 4 premium British tanks instead. It put a lot of backs up on the forums...
