Flares

How about we start using them in multiplayer ? If you are in trouble shoot the red flare (emergency landing, enemy fighters)

have you seen them being used in multiplayer ? I havent and i think its working pretty good in RoF so it would be shame not to use it aswell

I was flying an IL-2 on Wings of Liberty server and heading to target. On route I had an encounter with a lone Stuka. At some point the Stuka was close at my 7 o'clock. I opened my canopy and fired a flare at the Stuka. And black smoke starts pouring from Stukas engine and he has to disengage.

 

Now, did I cripple his engine with a lucky shot with a flare or was he running the engine too hard and break it himself?

Nothing to stop you using a flare but normally you are bounced at high speed so you are focused on evasion rather than selecting a flare. Tactically it may be a bit like blood in the water and attract a load of sharks that will see the flare km away than spotting an aircraft

I dont know if its possible to damage the engine with flare, but me and my friend were fooling around after landing and shooting flares at each other, and they DO damage the aircraft. It was kinda silly, my plane got a lot of bullet holes after he shot a few flares at me. LOL

The flare color selected, and a how many flares remaining count, is now graphically represented on screen since update v1.103

 

Cntrl + 1 = Red

Cntrl + 2 = Green

Cntrl + 3 = White

 

Here is a screenshot of Green Flares being selected.

Also, you don't have to use the flare gun to shoot a flare.

 

But right now they're not very useful. They're not bright enough so you can't see them from a distance and they only last a couple seconds.

 

-I did see a video of a guy getting a teamkill with a flare, shot the pilot parked next to him, killed the pilot.

Haha...

I did some testing in Quick mission. I shot my wingman in his Stuka with flares and with 4. flare hit his engine started to smoke. Who needs pistols when we have flare guns!
