Great skins designs guys but I feel  some people are making the colours too bright and unrealistic :(

There was also a cool little P40 that flew that day. I'd love to do this one, but I'm so busy and I know it will sit there, half done for half a year.

9./JG27golani79, since you have lots of details done for the flying tigers, do you think this one is worth your time?

I hadn´t planned on doing another P-40 yet so if anyone else wants to give it a go just go ahead.

Your ''brown'' is more ''green'' so it looks like dark/light green camo. But I do not know how to tell you what to change in your color perception  :(

Col. Robert L. Scott - P-40E. I believe there were several types of skins; this is the serial 11456.

Also, for the life of me, I could not get the shark mouth to line up in the front. Anyone have a photoshop file they can share with me?

Colour desaturated.

This files name: P40E1_USAAC_Roundel_2.7z

Wonderful work!

This is one of my favourite Soviet schemes: Major Petr Afanasevich Pokryshev's White-50, 154 IAP 1942.

You can never have too many fifties.  ;)

Yes, i  would like to see 112th squadron in the desert with the sharkmouth and red spinner

I've just done Clive Caldwell's P40-E AK-772. I'll get some screens and post when I get home.

If you are editing in Photoshop use the RGB or CMYK values instead of trusting your eyes.

There are a few sites which list the standard allied colours.

Thats fantastic. That was on my mind, Caldwells P-40. I have the decals in 1/32. Cant wait to see the desert shark!

I'm also red-green color deficient. Therefore I spend an awful lot of time comparing colors with the color swatch in photoshop. I hope my skins are not far off

Found some time last night to attempt my first skin. Its still a little rough in places but it'll do for the time being.

112SQN P40 Kittyhawk 1A AK-772 - SQNLDR Clive Caldwell.

Yes the dodgy paint job is deliberate. 112SQN's P40s arrived in Egypt painted in the standard western front camouflage scheme of Dark Green and Dark Earth on Sky S. The squadron gave them a field refinish by painting over the Dark Green with Middle Stone and the Sky with Deep Sky Blue.

The correct colours will tend to be super-saturated when viewed on sRGB monitors unless you compensate for it.

Really nice skin dave! And don't worry I understand what you are saying. What I was saying falls outside of this though, I just think some of the colours used in a few of the skins in this thread are much to bright and fluorescent :salute: (for my taste anyway) each to our own!

Thanks guys for the critique on mine.  I'd sampled the colours using the eye dropper tool directly from the side profile I used as reference, then dialled back the saturation by 20%.  Looks like the side profile was a bit off.  This evening I found a better version in my Volume 3 of Black Cross Red Star.  I'll look at doing an improved version soon.

White 56 is done - and there are also two winter variations of the skin which I´ve done on my own so the winter skins are not historical.

Hope you like them nontheless - enjoy! Alle 3 skins in one .rar archive - DL link at the end of this posting.

Hello pilots.
I have some additional P-40 ( original version N) Total interest marking the anchor and spade.
I found two sources markings, unfortunately no pictures.  At sources is a contradiction in the inscription, so I gravitated to the source of most probable - decals from AML company.

Hello Jason.

I use Gimp2 into it and I installed this font: " Macedonian Casual " Downloads think of these sites:

I'm sorry, my English is poor and translator into Czech is doing worse, so hopefully I asked understood correctly.

Thanks for letting me know that the tires still were bugged - checked again and found out that I´ve apparently used a wrong DXT setting.

Should be fixed now and it´s working for me (checked it in the viewer and in the game).

Please let me know if there still are issues left.

Hi everyone,

More time spent on these two files uploaded previously. I'm glad to have read the community are sharing honest opinion's here. When I first did this skin, I for one must admit I didn't really pay that much attention to the colour and tones, (especially the black and white tones), so thank you for that.

Changes:

P-40E1_USAAC_Roundel is a little lighter and richer than the P40E1_USAAC_roundel_2 file. Both files have been cleaned up as much as possible and further Alpha tweaks where made.

It's good to see so many community members are doing skins for our game, very much appreciated. :salute:

Cool - I didn't think of that

I guess so. I was going to complete 112SQN using the few photos and records I have. I will host in on my skin-server. (I'm working on a skin-management idea I hope to get Jason to consider).

yes, most likely, this is exactly P-40N "За Сафронова!" from 7 IAP.

That reminds me. It was difficult for me to find information on how to produce a DDS texture. I am a Mac and Linux user who only runs Windows for games.

If you are doing this stuff on a Mac like me, this workflow seems to work:

- Edit PSD in Photoshop, GIMP or your editor of choice which supports PSDs (I use CS4)

- Flatten the image after checking layer order and visibility (hide the wires layer)

- Export as a TIFF preserving the alpha channel

- Convert to DDS format (use DXT 5 in settings) using Graphic Converter
